again, more than likely the 02+ Max will be my next car, but i HATE the tail lights. silver (clear) is bad enough, but i hate the orange too.

i hear all the time, and see on websites like Courtesy Nissan and custom maxima that you can buy the 02-03 lights to switch into your 00-01, but why cant you buy 00-01 and switch them into you 02-03. it stands to reason that if the new is backwards compatible, that the old would be forward compatible, but is there something that doesnt allow that to happen?

i know i can use VHT nightshades to mask it, and open the tail light and do something about the orange, but the swap seemed so much easier. has anyone actually done this with sucess?

just get 00/01 SE tails
or we could trade

 

The swap to 00-01 is plug and play as well. I considered this at one point too. You'll have no problem finding someone willing to trade you for your clear tails if you post in the for sale forum.

BTW - you can't open the tails to clear the lens. Many have tried - and failed.
