Brand New OEM clutch and its slipping...WTF?!?

So it's been about 500 miles since I got my new clutch in. My car only has 37,000 miles and I blew the other one. So today I was in first and redlined it and went to slam it into second. When I did this, I popped the clutch up and floored it expecting to get some wheel chirp. WRONG. It felt like I was in neutral flooring the gas. I KNOW I was in gear because I let up and immideatly put the car into neutral. The air reaked of clutch. My question is, why would the clutch not catch second at a high RPM? The clutch is brand new and fully broken in.

Also, now that this happened, the clutch doesn't catch right away as it did before. Did I burn it up or something already?

EDIT: By the way, I haven't slammed any gears since the new clutch was in except for today.

what kind of clutch did U have installed on your car ? My ACT will chirp my 245-45-17 Falken Azenis in 3rd gear. I hope its not the Nissan Key Value clutch.

Its an OEM Nissan clutch. I didn't have Nissan install it though.

Nissan makes 2 diff clutches for 89-01 Maxima, a orignial one which will set ya back around 300 bux or Key Value one which only costs around 120 bux for a complete kit. The Key Value stuff works good on cars like 1.6l Sentras and such, but it can't stand the abuse much. Key Values have a verrrry nice ( read- crappy) reputation with the SR20 crowd for blowing up, slipping, chattering. What they charge ya for the clutch kit and the install ?

Clutch was supposedly $350. Labor was a little less than $700.

Maybe it's still not fully broken in? If you smoked a clutch after 37K miles, you're probably hard on it...
Take it back to the shop and ask them about it if you want, otherwise I'd start to worry after maybe 1000 miles...

so the clutch woulda cost ya 1000 bux then ? daaamn I do them locally for 300 bux plus parts. I seriously doubt ya have a OE clutch in there, its probably some cheap aftermarket one, or a Key Value POS. BTW I can get Key Values for like 95 bux +tax - complete with Pressure Plate, Throw out bearing, disc, aligment tool and pilot bushing. I wouldn't be supprised that they installed a Key Value one in the car and charged ya for a original clutch. Original clutch is pretty good, I had 245K miles on my OE clutch in my 90 Maxima SE.

I bought it used with 35k miles on it. I was doing stupid **** and destroyed the original after like 1500 miles. I think I will take it back to them because they over charged me for it to begin with.

I really hope they didn't pull that kinda crap. Its a friend of my fathers who did the clutch too so I doubt they would screw me over.

Damn dude 245k on an original clutch? Thats damn good.

You got the cheap **** clutch that holds less power than the one you had to begin with.

That's exactly what we're her for, ask your questions and do your research before you make such purchases from now on. Also you probably could have hired a local .orger to install the clutch for much less money. Always check the installers list in the regional forums.

I don't think complaining to them about overcharging you will get you a new clutch.

Does the cheap clutch cost $350? That is what they charged me for the clutch assembly.

is that including labor? If not, it looks like you did get the better clutch.

for 260 bux I picked up a brand new ACT clutch kit on Ebay for my Maxima. I still don't think its a OE clutch. Alot of shops call us for part #s and prices then they print out an invoice and stuff with the OE #s and prices on them and tell ya.... yeah we put in OEM clutch, yet they got one from Autozone...which was made in some 3rd world country and cost them 80 bux yet charged ya 350 for it.
