knocking sound in front end?

knocking sound in front end?
2000se with 61k.........when I go over light bumps or choppy road I get a loud knocking sound coming from the front suspension. It's not the hood unfortunately. Is it the sway bar links? Is it the bushings that are weak? Struts still dampen well but could this be it? Also, what is the transverse link? Thanks maxgods
