The new Bose is amazing. The Sub in the back sounds aftermarket with all the bass, it is defenitly worth the extra money. I am not sure what the drag Cd is, but at 80 mph it is almost silent. I would think it's probably .31 or less. I would say go for it.

my opinion

Hiya,

If youre previous car had any sort of decent sound system, you might be disapointed. The "subs" are not really subs, they are just woofers. You'll want more bass

Personally, I like the headunit of the BOSE system (which apparently, is made by Clarion). It functions well and you get that nice factory look. You might want to consider getting the bose system and replacing the speakers and adding a real subwoofer.

Do a search on the forums. You'll see that most ppl consider the BOSE system to be excellent for a factory installed system.

good luck.

My last car had a Sony head unit w/ digital EQ and cd changer running optically, 2 polk 12" subs, Polk Audio DB component speakers all around, all run by 3 Rockford Fosgate amps. I MISS IT. The Bose is ok, good quality, clear, good imaging, lacks some volume and BASS. The one upsetting thing I have a gripe with is that Nissan offers a system that has a sub and doesn't bother reinforcing the rear deck. It rattles like crazy. I'm not sure what I wanna do w/ mine I might leave the head unit and build around it. Don't wanna lose the stock look and the audio control on the steering wheel. If I had my choice I would have went without it. Then again I have a more discriminating ear. It's my job to. Check the profile.

i got my speaker amps replaced and added an amp and cd player in my 1991, and i was really impressed with the sound quality, i can blast it without distortion...i am not a car stereo buff or anything but for a basically stock stereo, it is pretty darn good...it blows away my parents 2001 Silverado(7speaker) and 2001 Suburban(7 speaker with sub). so i guess i will stick with BOSE, when i buy the car i wont have money to upgrade even if i wanted too ...i may wait for the 2002 though i have read alot of posts about it!

I have to agree with HaulinMax@$$, the best I can say is the Bose system is OK at best. All the components attached to the rear deck rattle in addition to the rear deck itself when to turn up the volume.

You can insulate the trunk spring rod clip and trunk light bulb lens cover and other components like the seat belt retractor housings, but the rear deck will still rattle because it is so thin and not reinforced.

It is a very high price to pay for a sub-woofer that rattles if you turn up the volume.

HaulinMax@$$, if you have any additional ideas from what I just said regarding the rear deck rattles, let me know.

the stereo is alright for a couple of years then you will start to experience the bose woa's. next thing you know the speakers start to crackle, then your headunit starts to fade, tape deck doesn't work, cd plays when it wants to.

It sounds "ok" I guess. If my rear deck didn't rattle so much! All my friends think it sounds awesome, but then again they all have factory weak systems.

2001 spoiler models are .32cd while the spoilerless models are .33cd

Sorry if this comes out twice! I accidentally hit send when I really wasn't finished!

Very tight system, considering it's factory.

Bose Stereo

Shortly after I purchased my 2001 SE 20th Ann. I went to the local stereo outlet (Sound Advice) and bought a sheet of Dynomat. I climbed into trunk and applied it under the deck and only made cutouts around the amp. Deck rattles infrequently and road noise from the trunk is nonexistent. I am thinking of buying the liquid noise suppressor and spraying the entire trunk soon......Once you tighten the trunk the Bass in clean and deep(For Factory Setup) and treble is clear due to high placement of tweeters in B pillars. enjoy !!!

Re: Bose Stereo OK

I got tired of the rattle the other night and went in my back seat and removed the Bose grille (and brok a clip in the process @!#$#!$!). I had some R&B pumpin and found that the sub itself was actually rattlin. There's not much u can do to help that. The other thing I noticed is that the cardboard deck liner is separated from the metal deck with some hard foam blocks (why?) with no padding in-between. I'm going to try adding acoustic filling or some padding to see how it works. Eventually I'm gonna trace the wires and see if I can add a secondary sub. I'll post the results.

I somewhat agree with Pillager6. It is great, for a factory system, but a good aftermarket system will blow it away and for that matter some factory systems will do the same, like the Monsoon for the Vet and Camaro or the Sony system in the Ford Sony Focus. My wife has the Sony and its great for a factory system. Nevertheless I'm pleased, but the bass it lacking, it needs a subwoofer,(we don't have a sub check the Bose site) but the mid and upper ranges are great with good imaging and seperation. The distortion is also low at high volume levels and it can crank fairly well.

Re: Bose System

True, it's not a sub, it's considered a 'bass module' in Bose terms. I deal w/ custom Bose home equipment and they don't make subs either. The system sound great compare to most factory systems. I even think it sounds better than the stereo in my mom's 740iL. But an aftermarket system can easily surpass it. Perhaps adding a true sub to the factory system will improve things drastically. Has anyone tried it?

I may have no Y chromosome, but I do have a discriminating ear. The Bose system is okay, but look around and see what you can get from a car stereo store for the same price. The Bose system, by the way, is expensive if you choose to upgrade it. For instance each speaker has its own amp attached which of course helps the sound, but can complicate things if you want to change them out.

We opted not to buy the stereo upgrade and went to a car stereo store and bought a head unit with a single CD player and subwoofer (with a tube) for less than $600 installed. Of course my head unit doesn't look as sleek as the Bose....
