steering wheel audio controls...anyone have problems?

just recently my controls have decided to rebel and only work when it feels like it and not when i want it to..i have to press the up button like 50 times before it switches tracks on a cd...it applies to ALL the buttons...the mode, up and down, and the volume...does anyone else have this problem? if so did u get it fixed and if so how?...does anyone have any ideas how i can fix this? cuz i took it to the dealer and they "fixed" it...more like looked at it and said it was fine when in fact when i drove out the parking lot and tried it..nothing worked...stupid dealer. any insight would be appreciated.

Sound like the contact in steering become loose and make contact only when they want to!!

Does it help when you turn the wheel?

i try pressing them when i'm driving and i'm making a turn or something...still doesnt work...i see that i'm not the only one with this problem...hopefully someone will figure out whats wrong with it...the extra reach to the headunit is uncomfortable when u have it on the wheel.

I don't have them but it could also be dirty contacts. You should be able to tear apart the unit fairly esily. If the contact surface is like that of a remote control simply take a business card, split it in two, tear the front from the back, and wipe the contact surfaces. Don't use harsh chemicals as it might cause the copper to delaminate from the PCB. Also clean the button side of the connection.

When you put everything back together make sure that all is snug.

custommaximaSE,

This has been discussed before. The biggest question is if the wriring is already installed, between the radio and the wheel. I don't think I ever saw an answer to that go buy.

As for the controls themselves, if you want them to look like the cruise control, rounded over, you have to look at the controls from the Pathfinder. The 2001 Maxima radio and cruise control had sharp edges.
