wild idle after foglight install

I just installed stock foglights on my 2000 max. In the manual it said to unplug battery's negative terminal, which I did. After I was done and started up the car, right away I noticed that idle was all over the place, especially when the engine is cold. When I stop in traffic, the idle holds at 650, then after about 5 secs it drops to a little over 500 and car starts to shake. I've had that before but not as much, and even less after I changed the plugs and used a can of bg44k.
I am wondering if I could've messed something up while installing the fogs. Could unplugging the battery cause this?

By unplugging the battery you reset your ECU. It'll be alright after a few days. It just has to relearn everything.

it takes 24 hours for that to work, and the idle is a constant spec in the ECU and does not change, even after reset.

my guess is you messed something in the fusing, blew a sensor or it's simply a freak concidence.

Fusing you say... I installed a fog light relay and then the manual told me to check if the fog light fuse was installed in the fuse box next to the battery. Well, the fuse box actually had a lot of empty fuse sockets including the one for foglights, but the foglights work nevertheless. I guess the followup question is, should all fuse sockets be occupied by fuses in the fuse box next to the battery?

Sidenote: my friend told me he had the same thing on his 2000 GLE, but its almost completly gone after he changed "the belts". Could that be the reason for the uneven idle?
