One grey dot on replacement coils

Someone on a different thread posted that he recently replaced his ignition coils, and the new coils had two grey dots. I did the same job last week, but my coils each had one dot. I'm afraid to ask, but did I just install coils that will give me a problem in a few years?

The replacements I got from DAVEB had 1 grey dot on each coil... these are the updated type. Not sure what the 2-grey-dot ones are, maybe they're also an updated type?

Just for clarity could someone please post the updated coil part #s? Had mine replaced but didn't check the dots...

FYI: As some others have reported Nissan reduced their prices on these coils too...$450 CDN installed.

ok Rich, I had to put down my glass of cab to go in the garage and check the part numbers on the box. The part numbers are 22448-2Y001 and 22448-2Y006. The originals ended with 0 and 5. Although,, as I said, I still don't know if these are the fixed versions or not.

Hmm, I have 22448-2Y000's and 05's with a gray dot on them in Nissan boxes....do I have the old ones, or since they have the gray dot are they the updated ones? Will I be helping anything by installing these?? I purchased them from an .org member, and will be pi$$ed if they are not what was advertised (updated coils).

I think you're safe if they have the dot on them. The newer numbers may have not come out until later. I had one replaced at the dealer and it had the dot on it. The ones I bought without dots came from ebay so I have no idea if they are the updated ones or not. I wonder if Dave B. could help us here.

Thanks cab for the effort! I had to put my drink down too and go to the garage in the rain for this but...I totally forgot I had the P/N on the service invoice.

Checking my service invoice they have the part numbers as:

3 Coils P/N 22448-2Y001 $101.67 CDN + tax
3 Coils P/N 22448-2Y006 $95.25 CDN + tax

2 hours of labour - $172 CDN + tax
1 for the diagnostic BS, 1 for replacing

The official rundown on coils:

22448-2Y000/5= 2000 Maxima
22448-2Y001/6= 2001 Maxima

All updated 2Y000/5s have the dot. All the 2Y001/6s I have seen do NOT have the dot. Getting "old style" 2000 coils would be extremely unlikely- They were on back-order for like 4 months back in 2001, then Nissan came out with the new ones.

Thanks for the help Dave. Can't the 2001 coils also be used on the 2000 Maxima?
