Replacing transmission fluid

Hi,
I have a 2001 Maxima GXE with 43K miles. I am thinking about replacing the auto transmission fluid. A Haynes book for the older model (up to 1998/1999, I think) only mentioned draining and refilling the trans fluid. It does not say anything about cleaning/replacing the filter. Does 5th gen Maxima have a filter for the auto trans? The previous cars that I worked on have a filter that can be cleaned (Saab 9000) or replaced (Toyota Camry).
Thanks.

there is not a fitler per se. there is however a metal screen that can be replaced but most often just needs to be cleaned. if you want to a drain and refill, then just pull the plug and refill through the dipstick what you took out. you should get around 4-5 quarts. if you want to take it a step further, you can drop the pan and get a little more fluid out. while its down, go ahead and clean the magnets in the bottom of the pan. just make sure you have a new gasket for the tranny oil pan. if you decide to clean the screen when the pan is dropped, brake parts cleaner works pretty well.

same tranny. there is not a filter, just a screen. you may want to find another shop to take it if they do not know the difference. im not knocking the guys but you may want to take it to place that has a little more experience.
