Midnight Blue or Silver 2003

Looking for some opinions on Silver and Midnight Blue 2003 Maxima's. I am in the market to trade up from a 2000 to a 2003. Orginally, I was hoping to go with Silver thinking that it wouldn't show chips and scratches as much as a darker colored car. I have found several silver Max's in my area, but I also found a very nice looking Midnight Blue. What are some opinions of some of the owners of darker colored Max's. I know all Max's have a problem due to the Nissan paint, so I'd like to minimize the appearance as much as possible. Thanks for the pros and cons.

Maj. blue looks great both day and night, if you're able to take good care of it. Paint chips + scratches are highly visible so it really just depends on what your eyes like better. IMO silver is so played out, everyone & their mom has a silver car!

If you go for majestic blue go ahead and have a few hundred dollars saved up and get the hood and front bumper repainted.

I've been complimented quite a few times about the color of my majestic blue max, and like you said it seems the paint chips are more noticeable. But I love the color and after a few wax jobs, it just seems to stand out.

Sheer Silver does an excellent job of hiding chips and is very easy to touch up with excellent results. I have a clear bra and haven't had a single chip since purchase. If you go with the blue, the clear bra is a must IMHO. Well worth the $. If you like both colors equally, I'd recommend the silver simply because it's easier to keep clean and hides defects.

I have also gotten a lot of compliments on the blue. It just stands out and you also don't see as many blue as you do silver, everyone has silver. Go with the blue.

At first I wanted either the silver or titanium, but I found a great deal on a majestic blue and jumped on it. I have gotten tons of compliments on the color and I fell in love with it once I got it, but its very hard to keep clean, and every time I wash it I notice more and more chips and scratches. I'd say go with titanium if you can, thats the one color I would rather have, but either way they're both nice colors.

If you have the time to fuss and bother with keeping your car looking spotless then go with majestic blue. It is gorgeous and far less common. But it is high maintenance.

Cheers,

Hey Kevin, glad to see you back on the org! Those were my two choices when I was looking for my Max. I finally got mine in Sterling Mist. The Sheer Silver does look very nice and I haven't seen too many of them around Huntsville.

Guys, thanks for all the replies. It's tough to make the decision. I will have to make a decision by Saturday. I've already made the deal, just need to tell the manager which one I want.

I know the Blue is beautiful when clean, but so is the Silver for that matter. To me, the Silver is so light that it would show dirt easy too , similar to a white car. Both cars are identical, except the Silver has 30K miles and the blue has 26K. Both are SE's, with sunroof etc. The blue just had factory Nissan leather installed, but if I want the Silver one he can have it put in by Saturday.

Decisions, decisions.....

Uh uh. No way. I've owned black and I've owned white (and dark green, and silver...). I guarantee that black (or a similarly dark colour) is 10 times as hard to keep looking clean than white. I still lean toward the majestic blue, but the silver would be WAY easier to keep looking clean. IMHO, of course.

Cheers,

Jaeger

So, the question now is.... Auto or Manual? Will you put your 2k back to stock and put those mods on your 2k3? So, what number does this make you? Maxima #5 or Maxima #6?

Yes, I will take off the clears, the AE pedals, door sills, weathertech guards, etc. And I will need to take off my RSB and transfer it over. The new Max will be an auto. Did not see any 6-sp in the North or Central AL area for sale. BTW, this will make Max #8!

I think majestic blue is the generally prefered color right now. But dark colors are harder to keep clean. I hate that.

I love the majestic blue color but I own a Sterling Mist Max. Bottom line is I bought this car to drive it and smoke whoever challenges me. Although the blue is less common and not as much of a cop magnet as a bright red car, it's a helluva lot more noticeable than a silver car. I had to be pragmatic in my decision.

I had a blue altima (almost same paint as maxima) and it showed all scratches and chips.... It was not THAT hard to keep clean, just wash often and dry afterwards. But all the scratches and chips really come out after 3-4 years....
So I went with silver Max this time, and WOW, totally different story. Like somebody said before - very easy to touch up and keep clean. Go with Silver for a long run.

Go with silver. Hides chips and scratches. But the blue looks better and sheer silver. But if you go with majestic blue, get a clear bra or repaint the hood and front bumper.

I haven't seen much majestic blue Maximas but I did see whole lot of silver Maximas. Blue Maximas are more rare I say. It's your call.

I agree with housecor. Get a clear bra and go for the majestic blue. I have a clear
bra on my car and I haven't had a chip on my paint yet. I do have a rock chip on
my windshield that I need to get repaired.

Sterling.... babe

Must say, I'm partial to sterling silver since that's the color of my car. Granted it is a popular color... for a reason!!! it's beautiful. The blue is definitely a less common, more unique color if that's important to you, but I will say... The silver is definitely very maintenance friendly. My boss said "I didn't realize how dirty your car was until I got right up to it... That's not like you Todd!". It hides dirt very well. The few door dings I have are virtually invisible unless you are in the right light. Personnaly I think the Silver is a classy color, even if it is one of the more popular colors. Don't get a color because it's rare... get it because you like it.

I have black right now and wish that I had gotten silver due to paint chips and scratches. Go with silver!

Thanks to all that posted their opinions. I went with the Sheer Silver for the reasons that many people mentioned in the post, hides scratches better, etc. I have to say I love the color.

You'll be glad you did. BTW - I highly recommend Pinnacle Paste glaze on the silver. It produces an unreal bright shine that makes the silver almost look chrome! You can layer it over AIO for long term protection. Just a suggestion.

go with gray luster, I have received many comments on my car because of the color.
But to answer your question, go with silver.

i traded in my 02 grey luster for an 03 sheer silver .its like night and day for chips and keeping clean.the grey luster was only slightly better then my 98 black se but the silver looks better a week after washing then either dark car 6 hours after.
