Anyone have a picture of how to remove and replace the H3 bulb in the stock foglight on a 2K1 SE? I tried to remove the original bulb but was afraid of messing up the alignment by removing too many screws and bolts. Anyone have instructions or pics from service manual?

TIA!

Neil:

Ok, this is off the top of my head, but I just changed my fogs recently so here it goes....

There is one screw that controls the alignment. If I remember correctly, it is really long and is plastic...don't touch it.

1. Take off enough of the clips and 10mm bolts and screw to move the fender lining out of the way.

2. With the lining out of the way, you get get a good look at the back side of the housing. This is a wiring harness that you need to remove in order to remove the light assembly. Unclip the harness (unclipping the harness was the hardest part for me)

3. Remove the screw at the bottom of the housing and then push on the back of the housing, you will have to push hard and eventaully the fog light will pop out. Make sure you have your hand on the other side to catch it or else you could scratch the lense if it falls on the ground.

3. There is a kind of rectangular shaped piece of plastic on the back of the housing, turn that to open it and get to the buld. There is a clip that you have to undo to pull the buld out. Unplug it and remove the old buld.

4. Plug in the new bulb. Put the buld in and re-attch the clip. Screw the housing back together and your almost done.

5. Make sure the housing is facing the right way and push it back into the car. Push it ia as far as it will go and then check to see that you can see the screw hole underneath the car.

6. Replace the screw in the bottom and the wiring harness. Put the lining back in place and attach all the screws and clips.

7. Turn on the lights and make sure everything works for the driver side. Then repeat for the passenger side.

Good luck and if you need help just post some more or email me. Hope this helps.

Awesome directions!

Just spent an hour this morning changing my fogs and this thread made everything so much easier. I admit, it did take awhile on the first one but after I made sense of everything, the passenger side took all of 10 minutes. Now I've got BVs up front and I can't wait to see it at night time.

Where are these magical screws located, near the wheel, under car, in the trunk? Where?

Only one screw... it's located on the bottom of the lamp.

There are two screws. One under the car in the front and one inside the wheel well. The first one is holding the fender lining on and the other is holding the fog light fixture in the car. Remove the first one along with some clips and 1 10mm bolt and you can move the lining and get to the second screw. The rest of the instructions should get you the rest of the way. Good luck!!

You should be looking under your car. Don't worry about the screws or plastic things in the wheel well.

You're trying to remove the lamp right? Did you unscrew the bolt under the lamp (you'll see it right in your face if you're under the car). After unscrewing that, push the lamp ourwards (away from the car) from the inside (engine). If it's stuck, tap the lamp from the inside with something... then push again. Make sure you catch the lamp when it flies out from all the hard pushing.

Ok, let's try this again.

Lay under your car on the drivers side and look up at the it. As you survey there will be a clip towards the front of the car. A bolt to your right and a screw to your left. There are two bolts near each other, but only one of the bolts is holding the liner to the car.

Remove the clip, one bolt and screw.

Then pull back the liner. After you pull back the liner, there will be a screw on the bottom of the light.

Take off the bolt and un-clip the wire harness.

Now push the light towards the front of the car and catch it when it pops out.

Change out the buld and...

You're done!!

Put it back in the reverse order and redo everything for the passenger side.

Email me if you have more problems.

I totally see your dilemma. That's the reason why I squeezed it into Friday morning because I'm getting my car dropped today. The space was kinda tight, especially if you need to get a good view for your first change. I think once you can get your head under there and see the parts involved, it'll be fine. Good luck.
