My service department told me I need a decarbonization for my 01 max, he said it could be causing my fowl egg smell and reduced acceleration. Anyone know what exactly a decarbonization is or does?

He also said I needed new belts, is this normal for around 36 - 37,000 miles?

Thanks everyone!

rotten egg smell could be a bad 02 sensor....

Decarbonization is when they run some stuff through the engine to clean carbon deposits off cylinders, etc....isn't that what BG44K does?????

BTW, I had a process like this done on my old integra that had 140,000 miles on it and it made a HUGE difference. But that car was 10years old and really high mileage, so it probably had alot of buildup. For a car with 36K like yours I can't see how that could be a problem.

Rotten egg smell is caused by poor fuel combustion - could be related to coils, 02 sensor, or many other things, which would also account for poor acceleration.
