while at it you might consider the spinners at autozone. only 49 or so. what a deal.

all intakes are the same except the injen which is a true one. or keep the stock box.

If you want a really good product backed with really good service, pick up a Berk Technology intake. You can buy one HERE or you can send a PM to cobymoby aka Bryan and he can hook you up. I have one on my car and many other .org members have them as well and they are a great way to add some extra power to the 3.0 and 3.5 engines.

Whats up with that spinner remark

Injen is not a true intake, its a g@ytake.

You're best bet is to go with a Berk or JWT intake. I forgot which one comes with a carb number. You need that so you can run legally.

The only TRUE CAI is the Place Racing CAI. The PR CAI requires cutting metal around the fender area. Injen may pull in cool air, but it sits close to the exhaust manifold...

Legally? Do you mean if you don't have one you're running Illegally?

So whats the best CAI then? Injen? I heard that a lot of people were complaining about the small filter size, is this easily upgradable?

There is no "BEST" intake, although if you want the best CAI, you should buy the Place Racing CAI, as it pulls cool air and does not route it through a hot spot like the Injen does.

Im pretty sure its the JWT intake. IT comes with a sticker. THis has a carb number. All aftermarket intakes are ILLEGAL unless you have a carb number for the filter. All other intakes available for maximas are illegal except for 1/2 of the injens. The newer injens came with carb numbers.

And naerok, I'm not sure, thats how they came. You may want to try Mille...

My advice would be to go with either the Berk Intake which is just a midpipe and a cone filter or get a PlaceRacing CAI or get its clone from EBAY. I had the hybrid intake on my 97 (just a midpipe and the JWT/Stillen Filter) and now have the Place Racing CAI on my 2001. I like the idea of getting slightly colder air... but they all make about the same power. Berk is good quality and cheap. PlaceRacing is about 200 (cheaper then injen and a TRUE CAI)

hey, what is with the spinner remark? i just bought some 17's so chill, i'm not riding stock anymore

FrankenCar and Berk are basically the same thing. You will most likely get a berk intake long before youd get the franken intake... they take anywhere from 2-5 weeks usually.

since money is an issue i would recommend the GAB. costs nothing unless you get a K&N filter which is about $40. you will notice that you will get about the same deep sound and performance gains as any other intake (which by the way is minimal no matter what)
some advice, after you read this dont open this thread ever again. in a few days it will be 10 pages long with people arguing about what is the "best" intake when the performance difference between them all is no small it doesnt matter. if you are going for apperance then get an intake. the GAB looks stock which is what i like.
good luck with your modding. if money is an issue you should have never started, it only gets worse

here is how you do the GAB

cut the top opening where you slide the filter in

if you want, you can also remove the useless scoop and white resonater under the battery

finished product
very clean and stock looking.

You are the only one I ever hear ripping on ALL the intakes out there. Every intake thread, I find you in there preachin on the evils on intakes, and claimin BS on all the dyno #s.

BTW, nothing against you, I just think its funny. I have the stock box

Here's what an intake will do for you (in general)

1. Will somewhat reduce your low end if you have no other exhaust mods.
2. WIll give you more power on the high end (for highway passing, etc...)
3. Will make a nice growl over 3-4K rpms
4. Will cause you to rev higher before shifting, just to hear the growl, and your gas mileage will go down.
5. Will look nice (in my opinion)
6. Good, cheap starter mod

i'm 17, and i just waited a couple paychecks to spring for the injen a while back. i love it, the sound is amazing, and the gain is noticeable to me. whatever you get you'll like over stock though. see if you can get someone in your area with an intake to give you a ride.
