I know this may be dumb, but actually I've read worse:

Being a stickler for time, is there any way to set the clock to the exact second? The way it seems now, I could be off by 30 seconds fast or slow because you can only set the clock to the nearest minute. I thought of disconnecting the battery and connecting again exactly on a minute mark, but that seems like too much trouble, especially if I lose my radio station settings in the process.

My 3rd Gen had an extra button to use within a minute of the hour that set the time exactly to the hour. The 5th gen has no such function. Sometimes I miss my '91SE.

Does your watch have a second had? Use it.

Wasn't trying to be too much of a butthead... I think your disconnecting the battery deal is the only way... and who knows if there is a delay between the reconnect and when the clock starts. I don't think its going to be worth it

clock

Sorry guy, but seems like a lot of work for such a small thing...and won't you lose presets of radio staions if you disconnect battery, and maybe some glitches you don't even expect(burnt bulb maybe...)

Not to mention...

...it's not an atomic clock. If you disconnect the battery today, you'll be doing it again in a couple weeks when it gets off by a few seconds.

Re: clock

You might look at the fuse box and see if the clock is on a circuit that is fused. It would be easier to pull a fuse than to disconnect the battery.

Also, since the radio is on a switched accessory circuit, whereas the clock and lighter are not, you won't have to reset your radio stations...

Just a thought - I haven't done this myself, but it's worth a look.

Rookwood is right

There is a fuse that disconnects the clock. It was one of the (many) things my dealer left off the dealer prep list. Found it bouncing around in my change box/ash tray on the ride home from picking up the new car. But you still may get the delay. It seems a heck of a lot easier, however, than disconnecting/reconnecting your battery.

I make my living as a psychiatrist, and frequently tell people not to sweat the small stuff. As obsessional as even a shrink can be, my opinion is...

Let it go! Stuff rarely gets smaller than that.

You’re all right, of course. It’s too trivial to worry about. I guess it goes back to my old days of flying as navigator in P3's for the U.S. Navy in anti-submarine warfare. A clock off by 30 seconds could mean a position error of up to 3 miles. We would never find Russian sub under those conditions. But my Maxima is no P3, so I need to get over it.

hahaha!!

I was actually going to post "Hey, maybe he works for NASA and 30 secs might matter to him!"

and, if you've been late to work everyday since last June like me, every 30 secs counts. BTW, I live 4 mins away and I'm usually ~8 mins late.

it only matters that you cared enough to ask. Obviously nobody knows the answer...
