New Intake Idea
Well I've been thinking...I read in import tuner power pages that the box is obviously a restrictive feature...OSCAI or Drop in K&N its drawbacks are inherent........SOOOOOO
has anyone tried to put a heat shield or something of that sort...around a hi flow filter and then procede with the OSCAI instructions??? You would get the benefits of the high flow with the cool air of the OSCAI
do you guys think this would work?

I don't know if the air box is really that restrictive. I think it may actually help in low end acceleration since you have a contained mass of air there already. With the addition of a tube, you essentially pressurize the air box. But, your idea of a heat shield around a cone intake may also be helpful. It would be better than the regular cone intake.

Well what are you gonna use for the heat shield? You can't use metal since it is a good conductor, it will heat up with the engine making it useless for "cold air." You might be able to find or use something like ceramic or porcilain. The only drawback to this is that it will eventually heat up to the abiant engine temperature. Once it does this it will hold the heat longer since it is like an insulator ie. a poor conductor. the only way to have a true cold air intake is to get something like a place racing one or go with the OSCAI. Either way these 2 mods will constanly stay "cold" or draw in cold air. good thought, but dont think the time to make such a thing would be worth the added benefit.
