Resistor, BS?

I'm a newbie when it comes to ECU upgrades. Is this thing for real? What exactly does it do?

I know that if I was going to do an ECU, I'd go the technosquare route. I don't have the money for it and I'm afraid it will void my warranty (underwriters are hardnosed).

It tells your computer that the intake air is coolder than it really is. This wiill give you a richer mixture and possibly more spark advance. It will hurt gas mileage and probably add power somewhere in the powerband. I have used this type of mod to fine tune mixture on road race cars (variable resistor and mixture gauge) but I wouldn't use it on a regularly driven street car.
