Kenwood makes a double din in dash navigation unit as well...

neither option is inexpensive, though. That's the one thing I want (besides new wheels!) that my car doesn't have. Finding an 02 SE with Nav was virtually impossible during the time I was looking...

The cheapest way to go is Garmin 2620. Has touchscreen, remote and internal harddrive that covers all of the US and Canada. You can find them for 1000-1200. Not as cool looking as installed navi in the dash, but for functionality and cost, can't beat it.

My Garmin 2610 sits perfectly on the dash of my Maxima, right in that little indention in front of the clock, it is perfect.

As for Eclipse...they have the same EXACT interface as the Kenwood system has but the Kenwood head unit is a much better unit as far as sound quality, and points of interest interfacing in the Navigation. Kenwood is a better product. Kenwood has the 3/4 overhead view that orients the screen to look like you aren't directly overhead but look from up and behind the car.

What brand will work directly with the Bose Set-up without having to do amp/speaker changeouts?

I have a Garmin Street Pilot III that I cant complain about too much. I purchased it on Ebay for $500 just used it on my trip to Florida (from NJ) with little issue. The only caveat is that you have to download (PC > Memory Card) all the points of interest data in your area of travel. (Other caveat: the interface of a 5 y/o cell phone) But it works.

Before buying the Garmin, I priced the incar Navi systems but the cost just made it prohibitive. (somewhere around $2400 not/incl install, though I could do the install myself)

I'm still kicking myself for not leasing the car I test drove: 2002 Maxima SE Leather w/Navi.

Peace

I regret not getting NAV. I went out and bought one of those cell phone size recievers from garmin + the software. We run it on a laptop or we have to upload waypoints to the unit. I don't like this for the car. The handheld would be cool for hiking or skiing but that's about it. I regret trying to save money there, turned out to be a waste.

Friend of mine just bought the megellen street pilot and it rocks. REally easy to use w/ 10 gig HD built in.

This thing talks to ya! REcalculates routes on the fly. He used a suction cup-to-the windshield so it's not a purdy install but he uses it in different cars.

Once I used the megellen, I really regreted not getting the NAV!

The Garmin 2620 is the same thing. Has the internal built in mapping. Mounts with a bean bag mount on the dash. Works perfect in the Maxima and is easy to move between cars. Also has a remote control.

You can also buy a PDA with Blutooth and get the GPS receiver and software for it. Then mount your PDA and bam, you got GPS.

The option should cost no more than $400-$500

I bought the Magellan to replace my Garmin Streetpilot III and promptly returned it. It doesn't come with any effective way to mount the unit in the car. They say to use the HVAC vent but it kept falling out and the angle sucked. Also, compared to the Garmin map display, the Magellan maps aren't detailed at all. It was extremely easy to use, but at the same time, seemed kinda stripped down. Bought the Garmin 2620 instead and it has everything I liked about the Streetpilot III but is much better with touchscreen and built in Hard drive. If you're deciding between these two, I would highly recommend the Garmin unit.

I've used a Garmin Streetpilot III several times. Overall I liked it (compared to the Magellan units that Hertz usually gives you that I've also used several times). My only complaints are 1) response time is very slow - if you miss a turn it can take nearly a minute or so to recalculate a new route, sometimes long enough for me to have missed the new route change, and 2) it frequently lost satellites when traveling through the mountains (I would imagine it would be a problem in a major city as well). I was not using the external antenna although I did use the lighter hookup which extends the antenna.

The new Garmin 26XX's are probably much faster (nearly anything is probably faster and presumably have better acquisition. The Garmin 2650 would be a good choice as it is supposed to have dead reckoning capabilities. I just don't know how hard it is to hook up the 2650 to the appropriate connections (you need to use an authorized installer). Hope this helps.

The 2610/2620 units are MUCH faster than the StreetPilot III. The calculate routes much faster. They use a much better interface for entering addresses. It is overall a much better unit. I highly recommend either of them.
