Transmission or Engine Howling Noise

I'm not sure if this is a common problem or I just need a new clutch. When I start the engine, there is a howling rev which stops after I release the clutch. Then the noise comes back in neutral and in gear unless I press down the clutch. It's been getting louder.

What is the howling noise? I have 90k on my 5 speed Max.

Alright, the noise has grown much louder. Sounds very coarse and whiny but when the clutch is fully disengaged (pressed down) the car is quiet as a lamb. Do I need a new clutch? HELP PLEASE! I'm starting to see $$$$ with wings getting ready to head for the Nissan dealers which I don't want to do.

Most likely the clutch's throw-out bearing is gone...not that bad at 90k miles

So if the bearing is out...how do we fix it? Is it like replacing a clutch?

I don't know . What will happend if we won't fix it? Mine it's not loud so it doesn't bother me and everything works normal.

i get a slight quiet clutch/tranny howl but only when the car is cold in the morning, and I don't hear it after that....

If a clutch problem....hope it really shows up before my 100k warranty is up!

i had the same problem on my 97, its most likely the Throw-out bearing. TO replace it ya have to drop the tranny.... might as well replace the clutch while your doing that though... the bearing itself is cheap, but with the clutch and the labor its kinda $$$
