Question About Tint on Back Window

Did you do anything special for the tint to stick to upper part of the back window (the part with the little black dots)? When I had my 2K tinted, the tint shop used a glue stick on the dots then applied the tint because he said the tint would stick better. I really didn't like the look of it because you could see where he used the glue. Just curious if anyone else has had problems with the tint sticking to the back window using the normal method to apply the tint.

Thanks.

i'm going to have my shop tint the window up to that black dotted part as to avoid the glue issue. Just have them cut off before it reaches that area

I thought about that, but I didn't think it would look good. Too much light would get through the top part of the window.

i have the same problem and the tint turned out like crap. i went to a tint shop and they said they can use some type of vinyl around those dots once i am ready to have it redone.

no matter what you do it will look pretty much the same from the outside. for inside out looks, you have to use a strip of vinyl.

on the max, you cannot sand the pattern so tint will stick because our antenna is up in there, into the pattern.

such is the design..

The dotted area is called a dot matrix. Mine goes just over the lower portion by about 3/4 of an inch. It doesn't bother me at all and you can't really even tell on the outside of the car. When I had it done I asked why it didn't go to the top and I was given two reasons: 1. the tint doesn't stick well in the dot matrix. 2. if you go with a metallic tint the water solution will never dry allowing the tint to stick thus causing the dots to rust. How ture is it? I don't know.

I had them tint over the dot matrix - no glue. I'm very happy with the look. The only way you could notice it is to stare right at the dots within a foot or two. I don't like the idea of not tinting the matrix since I doubt it would look uniform.

When I got mine tinted I asked about the black vinyl and was told that to do that you have to bring it back because they just cut out the tint on the dot matrix and use it as a template. He said it was risky with the antena being in the window.

Ive had 15% on for a while now and it looks great! Im not taking it back for the vinyl because it dosen't need it.

BTW I dont think the dots will rust because I think they are ceramic. And the solution they use WILL dry. I dont know what that guy was talking about.

No tint on my dot matrix. I don't mind the way it looks.

housecor - how long have you had your tint and what brand? llumar?

Just making sure I understand, you had your back window tinted like normal as if the dot matrix wasn't even there and you haven't had any problems with the tint sticking?

FYI: The tint specialist who worked on my car did not recommend tinting over the "dot matrix" area. The dotted area is actually the antenna, and tint covering it would, presumably, cause slight radio frequency interference. I'm not definintely sure about this, but it's possible.
