Need help installing shift light.

Does anyone with an '02 know which wire in the instrument cluster is for the tach? All the instructions I've been able to find here in the forum indicate that the tach wire is white/green (white with a green stripe). I know I'm not color blind but my instrument cluster doesn't have a white/green wire. I've got a white/blue wire, a white with silver hashes, and a green with silver hashes. Anyone have any ideas?

I've checked the how-to section and the wiring sheets here:

Not to hicjack the thread.. but on a related subject....I have a possibly stupid question: what exactly is the point of a shift light?

Me thinks perhaps you are color blind, lol. I just did it a couple weeks ago and I just followed the instructions in the org how-to to find the wire. I have an '02 as well.

So you don't have to watch the tach when racing. You keep your eyes on the road and when you see the light, bang, time to shift. If you've had one, then you'll know that they are very helpful.

If you dont tax your car, there is no point. Hehehe.

BUT, I have put on on my car (The Small 6 LED version) and it sits above my mirror (outta sight for anybody looking into my car). I installed it because the VQ (I was a Ford guy prior) was so smooth and pulls so easy to redline, I kept bouncing the rev lim. Now its not an issues, but it will show you how "off" the tach sweep is compared to a instant "light".

Really, for me, it probably considered "rice" :embarrased:

interesting.....I almost never get near redline...usually shift before 5k rpm when just driving around. I guess I can see the point, but if you are "one with the car" you should know when to shift

AH...but that was the issue...I was NOT one with the car when I first got her...now she and I are inseparable

On occasion I get up above 5K...not like I used to though..I have "grown up"...sorta...

I see where you guys are coming from. I started life as a Honda person, and those little engines need to be high up in the RPM range in order to make any usable power. The VQ on the other hand has plenty of power down low so you may not be in the upper RPM range as much as Honda motor would.

But once you have them, they are easy to get used to if you are drag racing your car.
