Getting a new dash kit-please help...

A dash kit is my next addition to my Max, but I wanted to know what other ORGers have done with theirs. I'm considering brushed aluminum, dark cherry wood and also carbon fiber to match my shift ****. This would probably be an easier choice if I had a black interior, but I've got Frost/tan.

Here's what my interior looks like now:

Please post pics of yours -preferably in Frost, but I'd like to see all colors to get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!!!!

i got a aluminum dash kit for sale. i bought this from custom maxima. this is real aluminum too. you can check their site for the pictures. I have a frost/tan interior on my sheer silver too. Reason I am not installing it anymore is that fact my new headunit is black.. and I was going with the "smoothness"

Also, the kit is brand new, no rips or bad 3m backing. I bought it for 149 shipped. Will let if got for lower. Just want to make some money back. PM me dude. PAYCE

defly agree with sooner fan. I went the cheapy route on my 96 with a flat kit, and it looked like crap, it didnt cover any of the edges, and it was pretty disappointing to me (i still got compliments on it though) I'm getting a new maxima this weekend, and you better believe i'm going with a high quality molded kit.

just trying to help Catalyst, in case he wasnt aware. not to take business away from the other person that posted in this thread, but the custommaxima one is flat which is the reason for the low price. if he wants that one then thats ok. but it wont fully cover especially on the door panels. you will see the stock panels showing.

I see the shifter's in now, so I see no options: You gotta go carbon fiber. Things gotta coordinate! Otherwise, I'd likely vote brushed aluminum. And hey, I thought tint was next...

i took some pictures to show the importance of getting a MOLDED kit.
there are close-up pictures on my website of each of the pieces
and i agree with housecor, you really have no choice but to get carbon fiber

Have you seen the dash kits in person? They just look like a big ol' sticker on your dash. Getting a molded kit will help, but not a lot.

There are a few places that do custom coatings that eliminate the sticker look. Though I have not seen it in person, I would think it would look 100 times better.

Anyways, just make sure you see it in person before deciding. I was glad I did before ordering.

@Housecor: you caught me. I should have said my next-next mod. Tint is coming before the dash kit.

Reading these replies is confirming my suspicions that I wouldn't like a flat kit. I think it would look fine on console panels and such since they're flat anyway, but the door inserts might not look right. I know I'm asking for a lot, but does anyone have pics of a flat kit? I've already looked all over the web to see some good pics, but they all only show the center console.

the only flat piece on mine is the one for the side vents

i looked at some of the sites that sell flat kits to find you a picture. none of them have pics of the door piece. wonder why that is?

finish?

Hi guys,
Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread, but I'm planning to get a dash kit soon as well. I've noticed that a lot of the kits seem to have a clearcoat-like finish over them. Soonerfan, I noticed it particularly in your pics...looks like the Joshua Tree kits don't have that finish over top of 'em. I'm not sure I like the plastic-y look from a shinier finish -- is it just a trick of the light, or is there really an extra coat over top of the metal? Thanks!

Nice...thanks for the help! I think I'll probably end up going for the bare metal one, but it's great to have the info for the comparison...now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

That's usually what i hear too, most say get the molded, but i have the flat brushed aluminum, never got a chance to install all the pieces yet, but from whats on people like it. I'd say go for the flat brushed aluminum if you want the aluminum look, since i have heard from others the molded aluminum look...looks too much like plastic. the real aluminum, even tho it's flat, looks nice because it's real. And i also have the same interior as you. hard to decide with all the different views.

that was the kit that I bought, but it looked kind of krudy. It was also not very well "adhesed" for lack of a better word. Especially on the corners or on anything that needed to be curved it began peeling back almost immediatly. (and Yes i did follow the proper procedures ie alcohol and adhesive promoter).

In fact if anyone can guide me to a good deal on a molded kit for my 99 maxima. It would be awesome!

I appreciate the input on this thread. You've all given me insight, though I still can't decide between carbon fiber and aluminum. I'd go CF if I had a monochrome interior, but I think aluminum will look better with what I have. I may be getting rid of a shift ****...
