Ignition Coils

I tried searching for this on the web site, but the search feature is down. I heard something about bad ignition coils in 5th gen maximas. I have 2001 Maxima(auto), bought it used, and havent had any problems, except for trannie slippage which was fixed when i showed nissan the tsb report. Are there any common signs to watch out for to diagnose bad ignition coils.

A code may sometimes go. Most of us are not that lucky, and we just have pinging/knocking, which typically occurs udner load in the 2-3k rpm range. It sounds like a piece of metal flapping against the car under wind, or BBs in the engine or something like that.

Yeah, I have a 2KSE which I had bought last year with 28K miles. My ignition coils went bad last week on Easter Sunday! I noticed problems back in the winter time. It seemed like the car would not keep idle when first started. It seems like it wanted to cut out, unless you gave it gas to keep it running. Since I had no CES light, I didn't worry about it. Well, soon it started to get worse. I would start the car up at times, and it would like cut off. I then started it, while feeding it more gas to stay running. Well, Easter came and the CES light came on, and I had a code for Primary Ignition fault (ignition coil). Didn't know which one or ones were bad, but Nissan replaced all six because of my extended warranty. Now, I can tell a difference where the car seems to have more response and power. Although the car only has low mileage, I'm thinking of putting some new plugs in as well.
