pay info

Those people that put a $200 deposit down will owe $515. I sent him the liscence plate bracket so he could mold the space for the liscence plate but I dont know if he will make the holes or not. I would assume he would, but when you send your payment I would specifically ask him to cut out the holes.
My car is a show car and a weekend driver so I will have plates on it and I'd like the holes drilled out.

Nilesh... keep your shirt on buddy! I e-mailed Jose in regards to your payment and I'm still waiting for a response. DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER. If theres nothing to report about the CF Trunk project, you wont see me on here much. But as soon as I know something pertinent, so will you all. Hang tight...

when i sent the remainder of my payment today, Jose said he would make sure the license plate light holes would be cut out on mine. i dont know if that means you guys have to specify, but just make sure, those who care.

Deac, i dont know how much nilesh would be checking the thread now, but i talked to Jose about the $50, and we didnt really get anywhere on that, so i paid the full remaining $515, he said he never got $50. im gettin outta the middle of that tho.

now i just gotta get really used to the no spoiler look

Good to see everything is coming together. Deac, you truly are doing a good job continuing this thread and keeping everything updated. I'm sorry for the pseudo-harsh words, its just unnerving to not know whats going on, I'm one who always considered myself in control of my financial situations. KCMC has gotten a response from Jose about the money in question, so it's time to get answers from Jason, I guess.

Once again - good luck with the rest of this deal, hope to see LOTS of pictures. Thanks Deac for organizing, and KCMC for purchasing my spot.

Take care all-
Nilesh

You gotta figure...

We all know it will definately be naturally lighter because it Carbon Fiber vs aluminum we're talking about here. If I had to take a guess.... I would say it should be at least 10-15 lbs less.

from the email he sent me saturday, he said he had a trunk in the mold now, and one to go in after that. as long as i got him my payment asap, he could get mine in the mold and shipped out early "next week" which would be this coming monday or tuesday i assume. i figure if you get your payment in now, you would be after me.

he also said he would make sure to leave a hole for the stock license plate lights on mine, but im not sure if you want him to do that for you too.

I don't know bout 350 bux for a VIS trunk lid, but I seen a RSX Type S go through the shop last week with a carbon fiber rear door latch. Now on a RSX this is a big door with a window in it, it has a wiper, needs room for the 3rd brake light that is right in the middle. The latch was made by VIS, and the attention to detail was superb. Latch was sooo light that I think it must have shaved ez 75lbs of the back of the RSX. Everything a stock RSX had, this one had- even holes for the plastic clips that hold the interior panels on where there. I'm not so sure bout a CF trunk for my own car as I'm affraid I will do some damage to the lid with my sound system.

i checked around for prices on VIS trunks, and the absoulte cheapest honda trunks i found were $580ish. he said that is what VIS told him, and he was gonna call him today, but i told him the exact same thing, that $350 was extremely low for something with such complexities as a CF trunk.

Status update on the trunklids:

This past Thursday my paint guy finally had a chance to come over and spray the trunklids down with an automotive clear coat, the only problem was that the weather was rainy and very humid(we didn't factor this in), and this ruined the clear coat leaving many pinhole sized holes in the finish. I asked him and he said that it's possible to wetsand them and to reapply the clear and that it's going to take him a few days before we know. I am sure that one of the two will be fine after they do that, it wasn't as noticeable, but I don't want to take any chances and will start making a new one today.

Since we urgently want to finish this project, we are going to stop all other work at the shop and focus only on the pending trunklids. By doing this I am sure that we will have some of them finished this week and the rest by this next week.

And to answer some other questions:

djfrestyl: I'm sorry that there was still some confusion about those 50 dlls, I tried to clarify that in my previous post. That money never made it to me, so please talk with the person that you sent it to.

E55AMG2: The weight savings are substantial, this trunklid should only weigh around 12-15 lbs. The stockers are around 40-45 lbs.

Platinum_Maxima: VIS products are inexpensive and not made domestically, but I'm sure that you will never see one for that cheap. On top of that I highly doubt that they will ever come out with any maxima trunk lids, and if they do they would focus on the 4th gen, not the 5th gen.

BlackBIRDVQ: From my experience, I had a 12 inch sub in the back when I was testing the 4th gen trunk lid on my maxima, and I had no rattles and it actually sounded better inside. I don't know how big of a system you have in your max, but if it's something similar to what I had you should be ok.

Ok guys it's time to get to work, I will have an update this weekend with some tracking numbers.

Thanks!

Jose.

so an 11" x 32" square of "rigid black sheets" is $279. you figure at the bare minimum, your gonna need 3-4 of those. 3 sheets of that is over $800. expensive? yes this is, but its a custom project, meaning they had to make the mold for these 7 trunks. even the mass produced VIS trunks are goin for just $600 and up, depending on where you look, and those are "mass" produced trunks...

http://www.prostreetonline.com/buy/v...hatches/honda/

of course we are going to semi-justify the fact that we spent this much money on a trunk lid, but based on some of these VIS prices, this, as myktek said, isnt bad for custom work.

and plus, those sheet your talking about....aren't what u use to make a cf hood/trunk etc etc....these pieces are already harden, so u cut pieces out of it... like a dash kit....a real cf piece is made by layering pieces into a mold and then applying the resin to it...it's like laying fiberglass....i've done alot of research on cf myself b/c i wanted to make some custom pieces for myself....
