I don't know about all of you, but I see the 6th gen maxima more then I do the 5th gen on the road. Maybe it's my location. Anyway I like my 5th gen so much better then the new ones. Anyone else?

I like my 5th gen better as well. But, to be fair you should post this poll in each gen.'s forum.

6th gens are growing on me alot.....Obviously the Maxima is now more upscale and has a more current look to it and caters to a diff crowd

But I bought my 5th gen for its '4 door sports sedan' appeal

6th gen isn't really a max anymore in my book. It's too big and slower than the model it replaces. It's a nice car but just isn't the 4DSC I expect a Max to be.

I'll take the 5th.

1. Interior quality/look
2. No tooth and "wide eyed" front end
3. Just the right size
4. No annoying screen to view for basic radio and climate functions

the Altima is now the Maxima, there's even a SE-R version of the Altima coming out next fall.

The 6th gen Maxima is now a....I don't know what it is to tell the true, but I can say its un-inspiring.

I see so many of those Altimas around. Your right they did become the new maxima. I am just so happy with my 5th gen. I am mad at myself for not getting the 3.5 so if anyone has anything to make me feel better about my 3.0 please let me know.

I'll take the 6th gen. Nissan put out one fine piece of machinery. Just replace the grille and you have one sweet ride. My friends are into the small sport compact imports but me I want the big sedans that has room for 5 full size adults and the power to back it up.

I've seen some 6th gens that look pretty good. The grille needs help or replacement, but with rims and lowered, it's not that bad. I test drove one a couple weeks ago and I was impressed. Very quiet and solid (quick, too). All that to say that they are growing on me and I'll keep my AE, thank you. lol

It's okay but I like my 5th gen more. It's just more of a sports car.

It would have to be the 5.5 gen SE it is the ultimate in Sporty looks inside and out stock. It has many features and features available that push it to near luxury car status still remaining sporty including: Memory seats,HID's, trip computer, nice leather and nice materials used, Nav and an attractive price in which most people think you paid much more for. Alot of people realized this when they saw the 6th gen and those remaining 5.5 gens were snapped up.

so much for respect to other members...

for me, I'll take the maxima that fits my pocket. If I could afford the 6th gen right now, I'd probably be driving one. Overall, ANY generation Maxima you get, it's the best car in it's class.

I personally had to find the nearest trash can to puke in the first time I saw the 6th gen. All I could think of between stomach reflexes was "what the @*%! did Nissan do?"
After gathering my composure I took a trip to my nearest dealer to get a closer look (good thing I brought a doggie bag!). I still maintain my first impression of the 6th gen: its just plain OOOOOOGLY!

Has anyone else noticed the current design trends with all the manufacturers? They all like to give their entire line of vehicles the same looking front grill etc. What ever happened to the values of originality and character that we all love so much?
just my .02

Bingo. I love my 5th gen to pieces. Though, to be perfectly honest, I wish the front could easily be modded to look like the 5.5 gen. I love the front of the 5.5.

My favorite was always the 4th Gen. My dream before I had my license was a 5 spd 4th gen black on black. After the 5th gens came out, they grew on me and since I wanted a new car, I got it. For me it's a toss up between 4th and 5th gen.

Not really true. a few 04 guys are running low 14s stock. 6th gen weighs more, but also has more HP...not the 10 that nissan says either

If I could have any Maxima EVER, brand new, with no miles on it, I would have to say I'd take a 3rd Gen SE 5 speed.

great suspension like the 6th gen, and light weight like the 5th gen...

it has all of the qualities that the 5th & 6th gen owners enjoy...

and it only takes a couple of mods to make it a high 14 second 1/4 mile sedan...

plus, I love the engine note it puts out...music to my ears.

have any 6th Gen 6 speeds been to the dyno yet?

I guess if it puts out more than 214 to the wheels in 4th gear you're right. But somehow I don't think Nissan underrated the newest Maxima...

I think the new 6th Gen is gorgeous. The overall shape is sharp, modern and stunning. Of course there are a few things I am not fond of, but that can be said of any car. But the things are...Orange illumination. My '86 Pulsar had that, Nissan went backwards there. The grille, it isn't the tooth, to me it is the shape and size. Needs to be narrower and reach closer to the headlamps. Other than that, the car is awesome. If you watch your optionings, it is one of the best sedan values out there bar-none.

I was seriously contemplating an '04 SE 6-speed, but came across this sweet, garage kept, adult owned, 2002 6-speed that I could not refuse.

Well the outside shape is good, except for the front, but that is something i can live with. However, i absolutely want to puke at the interior. If they had kept it remotely classy it would have been a hit, but now, it feels like a gen x toyta matrix inside.

And i don't think i want to switch from my current vehicle for anything else, even if i am pretty keen on the 1998 models.

I remember a thread a few months ago, where the guys used some software to calcule the HP by entering 1/4 time, weight, 60' and/or some stuff like that. It came down very close to 280. Who knows.

Well, I got the Gen I want, the 5th Gen and the 5.5Gen, although the 4th Gen ain't bad and looks really cool.

6th Gen could've been the shiznick, if they hadn't decided to go with that grille and fat rear end that no one seems to like, plus it seems that year after year the Maxima just keeps gaining more weight, so even though there's more power the 1/4 mile time doesn't seem to change that much because of all of the added weight.

What gives?

When if ever will we see an over 300hp RWD or AWD Maxima?

It almost looks as though Nissan has plans to get rid of the Maxima altogether, I say this because the Sentra is now going to get the 2.5 4cylinder that is available in the base Altima.

Where does that leave the Altima? It's probably safe to say that it will come standard with the V6 within the next 2 years, so the question that needs to be asked then is where will that put the Maxima?

Anyone wanna bet if there will be a 7th Gen Maxima for us to love?

the maxima in my eyes is nissans new luxury model. say good bye to the 4 door sports sedan slogan that now belongs to the altima. Im not to disappointed because the maxima is still a very fast car and has the room to fit the whole family.

I like my Max than the 6th gen. I don't really see very many 6th Gen out here on the road. One time I was driving on the freeway, I saw a 6th Gen, I couldn't believe how fast that car blew past me, I try to catch up but traffic got too heavy.

Smoked a 6th gen SE on the I355 toll way while ago... dude sees me on the way to my work every day. I also see a moded 5.5 gen 6spd on the way to work every day. Personally I would get a G35 sedan 6spd, and just like my previous car ( 00 Audi S4 6spd moded) I would put on a set of plates on it sayn ATE UR M5- my S4 had ATE UR M3.... I'm sure a twin turbo G35 sedan will smoke the M5 in any contest of speed. I hate German cars. 3rd Gens are the shizznit, I had one 300K miles still ran great. VG30E 5spd 90 SE model.

sixth gen is balla for a nissan, but i love my 5.5
