I have only been a member of this forum for about three weeks and have not posted anything up to now. I just purchased a 2001 SE 20th Anniversary Edition Maxima. I really love the car, it has gray frost leather inside and Icelandic pearl outside. I have never owned leather before so still have not got use to the seat's since they have a lot firmer feel than the cloth. every body I have talked to tell's me after I get use to them I won't have anything else. Just thought I would let you know about the car.

Congrats on the new purchase!! You won't regret the leather. I wasn't accustommed to having leather either, and they did feel firmer, but it's nice to be able to slide around in. I too have been told that I won't want anything else. No complaints from so me so far!

leather is nice

I have the cloth b/c i thought i didn't need to pay the extra for something that i didn't need. now i wish i had them...

not for the looks...

But that cloth just shocks the s*** out me everytime I get out of the car. Yesterday I got out and didn't touch the metal with my hands but rather an arc came out and hit me right in the nipple! After the initial pain, it didn't feel that bad and i got back in the seats for another go round, but that's another story...

Re: leather is nice

always touch metal before putting your foot on the ground as you get out and you won't get a shock.
i think i'll ignore that last sentence...

Give me a clue on how to keep the perforated seats in the AE clean and conditioned. I am worried about leather goop clogging up the pretty holes.

I have cloth seats but don't get my nipples zapped. I feel like I'm missing out on an excellent feature. What fabric is your shirt made of? I want to see how it feels?

Exaclty, after having leather you will never want to sit in cloth again. Cloth is too sticky, hot and rough. Making out in the back of a leather car is much nicer :-)

i have the shock problem...

i thought it was just me, my last car had leather, so i never had that problem. it usually shocks me so hard that it can be heard by the passenger getting out from the other side, someone always says, "what the f*** was that?" sometimes i just take it like a man and touch the metal frame of the door, but i usually keep my hand on the door panel, then when i get out, i would pull on the door panel and close it, i dont think that its good for the panel, but i hate getting shocked. am i getting shocked because my shoes are rubbing against the mats, or cause my clothing?

Had the same problem. Got an anti-static spray from "Rite-Aid" store ($2.99 or so) and the trouble is gone!

Funny part--I'm stil trying not to touch any metal parts Guess it'll take me a while to get used to static-free seats.

perforated seats.

I haven't found a way not to leave leather conditioner behind in some of the perforations. The first time, I just poured it on the seat (old habits die hard) then I realized what I did. Next time, I applied conservatively to a cloth and then wiped, didn't help much. So, I'm open to suggestions.

Any ideas, anyone else with the AE leather?

Oh, and I agree, once you have leather, you are spoiled. It's a shame.

That burgundy color looks awesome. I got sterling mist and like it a lot but if I saw the burgundy I would have gotten that. What do you wax it with?

Hey, thanks; the "merlot" is my personal fav, obviously. I've waxed it twice (bought in December). I followed a regimen that was detailed in a thread titled something like "what do you wash your car with". A lot of people responded with a very impressive array of methods and products.

I use meguires (not sure of spelling). I did the cleaner wax, the show car glaze, then the yellow wax about 2 months ago, then just did the yellow wax about 2 weeks ago. I'm really pleased with the products. I also use the meguires leather conditioner, interior trim polish, and the Endurance tire shine. Also, I use the yellow wax on the wheels! Makes 'em shiny! I do RainX on the windows.

Let's see...I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but anyway, that is pretty much th routine. It's a lot of work, but the results are immediate and long lasting. I only wish it minimized paint chips!!! Argggh!

I have the Majestic Blue Pearl (metallic) and use the Wax Shops Super Glaze for quick waxing as it has a sealer that hides swirls and small blemishes. Done monthly!

Every three months, after washing, I clean car with Mothers Precleaner, follow up with Mothers Swirl Remover, and then with Mothers Pure Carnuba Wax (tin can has more Carnuba than bottle). Do not skimp and use an all purpose wax or Cleaner Wax their mixed and cannot due the same job.

If you want a great car wash soap that is slippery and works easily without damaging finish then try www.griots.com (Company: Griots Garage) their rim cleaner is authorized exclusively by BBS also. And one of the best products they sell is Undercarriage Spray.....a blue thick treatment that makes your wheel wells look brand new again!!! Like Armor All but thick and drys quickly....

Thanks for the recommendations. By the way, when are you going to get some pictures of that majestic blue beauty on here?? We don't get to see enough of them.

Re: Re: perforated seats.

It's actually Merlot (the burgundy)... beautiful color. I have one as well. Not my first choice, but my wife liked it. So we bought it. Absolutely stunning color and with the black leather interior, it's just beautiful.

I just bought some paint clay and carnauba wax from Griot's Garage (www.griotsgarage.com). I haven't waxed the car yet, but will after the rain leaves us.

I'll let you know how difficult and time consuming the process is (my car's only a month and a half old, so it's not in dire needof wax yet).

I was actually directing my comment to killrwheels regarding is majestic blue. But to you, I haven't regretted for a minute the merlot. I think about the blue cause it's a special color just for the AE. It's gorgeous, but the merlot knocked my socks off.

oops. I was directing to greggmax's comments re your merlot max. lovely looking car.

But thanks for the input on washing/waxing. I've had my car (merlot as well) for 43 days now and have washed it four times, but haven't waxed it yet. I figure that's coming w/in two weeks or so.
