Decided it was time trash the old stock head unit and put something better in to push a signal to my equipment.
VERY HAPPY WITH MY CHOICE!
Put in an Alpine CDA7949, which has 3 sets of 4v outs going to an Alpine MRV 4 chan amp for the front and rear, and a rockford fosgate 800a2 for the subs (2 fosgate 12" HX2 DVC's in a sealed enclosure).
Got the dash kit at Audioexpress.com for 15 bucks.. looks pretty clean.

looks good...

i personally would have gone for the double din size unit, but thats because i think it looks better, but you can always add something like an eq underneath your reciever. nice looking though, sounds like a nice system.

How do you get the double din in? They don't make an install kit for it that I have found, so there will be a gap around the edge. If you found something that I have not, pleae let me know b/c that is what I have been looking for. Its either that or make my own out of fiberglass.

i really dont know....

i haven't thought of that really, i didn't change my stock stereo, so i really dont know. do you think a double din would fit if you took out the middle bar in that kit that you have installed already? i really dont have a clue, and i haven't seen any fifth gens with a double din, but you might want to do a search on it?

Well if you notice on his kit that pocket below the headunit, is smaller than the cutuot for the headunit. Now cutting out the bar would work on other kits but you would have to be pretty precise with a dremel to cut out the entire thing. thinking of getting kit like that and using it as a fiberglass mold. Then with that mold making a kit to hold a 2din unit. Maybe, but have to find the time first.

HELLLL NOOO....I would've rocked it all the way with a touch screen folding TV with cd/dvd/tv functions and a dvd player or 10 cd-indash-changer under that..

j/k the parts and the install on those things would cost almost a rebuild of a tranny

It looks like an open slot below the head unit. Is that what I am seeing? How easy/difficult was the install?

AC controls

My question is, I got a 2000 SE, and the AC controls you show in the three pictures are completely different than mine. You have manual controls, in my SE I have digital auto controls.

Does this audio dash kit work with the auto ac controls too?

Here are some pics, and the a/c controls make no difference for the kit fitting.

re: pics

In one of the pics, it seems that there is almost a 1/8" gap between the top of the radio kit and the ac vents.... is that normal or was it not fitted correctly? And what is that you got in the ash tray?

Also I got the Premium Bose stereo with the subwoofer, If I get this get, I have to basically replace all 7 speakers, because you cant use anything with the bose speakers, they run on their own crossover and amps.

Those are Nintendo connectors in the ashtray, I believe. And there are adapters to use aftermarket head units with the Bose speakers, so you don't have to replace everything (although you really should).

xtant,

where did you find those kits? I would love the one with the 2 din slots!

----------------------

Dixit,

As for his ashtray those are control ports for a nintendo 64 he has installed in the back. I don't know if you/he has it there anymore but you can see his entire system on

http://www.sounddomain.com

you don't necessarily have to change everything. you can get an adapter from crutchfield that will allow you to hook up an aftermarket headunit. but while your at it, you might as well change out the bose speakers. they are ok, but aftermarket speakers are usually so much better and provide a better sound quality.

Re: Re: re: pics

Yeah but still no one has answered me on why there is almost a 1/8" gap showing at the top of the kit right underneath the Air Vents. Just want to know if this picture was taken before it was fully installed or is this how it normally looks?

Also where can you get this kit and what colors do they come in?

Don't have one so I can't tell you.

Sometimes those things are perfect, and you have to compromise to get the things you want.

The gap is because that was a test fit. If you look at the third picture the a/c vents have been replaced fully.

The Double din kit is a modded single din kit. Someone recommended that you cut the pocket out of the original kit and I thought I'd show you what it looked like.
