17 Inch Chromes

I HAVE A QUESTION DOES 17 INCH CHROMES CAUSE A LOSS OF HP AND TORQUE THEN THE STOCK RIMS OR RACING RIMS. I was also told they make your car go slower. Can someone please explain this to me.

Thanks Glen

17" chrome wheels is a little too general. typically, chrome wheels are heavier than the same sized painted wheel. adding that weight to the wheels adds unsprung weight which will harm accleration. when the vehicle is rolling, the added weight plays lesser of a role but adding too much weight can make other componets such as the suspension and brakes to work harder. this can cause accelerated wear on these components. with 17's, i doubt they will add too much weight but just compare their weight to the stock wheels which is around 25lbs. check out stevetc's article in the garage section on the homepage for a great description of wheel weights and their affects.
