my first kill

Plano, TX

I have to give the guy props. His car was nicely set up. He didn't have the ricey stickers or neons underneath. I don't know the year model but it was a clean Prelude. I asked him about his mods and he mentioned a cold air intake and exhaust on a stick shift. I've ridden in cars before with NOS and I'm not completely sure but if I had to guess by the sound, I would say that the guy was on the bottle.

First it was a rolling start. 35 to 40mph and STOMP. I was in 2nd gear hanging around 5000 or so RPM. Perfect speed for my '02. BTW, I have no mods except for a drop in K&N filter (if you even consider that to be a mod). Here we are at 40 and he got CREAMED! I let off at about 65 in 3rd and he kept coming so I STOMPED it again and bye-bye. Max was up to about 90 when I finally said enough.

He pulled up to the light and we talked until it got close to turning red. I was a little worried about my Potenzas and my lack of experience with launching my 6-speed. I must have gotten lucky. I tried to avoid creating a bunch of noise and smoke so I just rolled into it until I was at Wide Open Throttle. Bye-bye my friend. 1st... 2nd.... 3rd.... at 3 car lengths, he got the point.

We pull up to the next light and the intersection crossing is very bumpy so I don't take off hard at all. We get up to about 45 or 50. I'm in 3rd gear, were neck and neck. I hear him downshift to 2nd and open up. I was cruising in 3rd and when I heard him open up, I just pushed down the gas pedal and pulled away. I can hear his loud exhaust screaming as he's shifting gear to third. He doesn't have much hope at this point. He asked about what gear I was in and I said, "I was in 3rd the whole time. Didn't downshift. I'm still in 3rd." I downshift into 2nd and say "this is second." The I stomp the gas and my head jerks back so fast I almost missed third gear.

He says, " I was in 2nd," and he stomps on it to show me. His exhaust is so loud, its a wonder we didn't catch any attention from police.

We pull up to the next light and talk for a minute. He says, "what's that car pushing... 260 horsepower?" "Nah," I said, "maybe 230 or 235."

I enjoy my Max more and more each day. I don't typically drive around looking for hondas to kill but that was really fun. This car definately lives up to the legend of the 4DSC! WOW!

the 02/03 just got a really good engine with lots of torque. Once you hit some turns, they cant hold the road for ****. but dont get me wrong, i always like the power of the 3.5. The other day i stayed so easily until 50mph with an older body style M3 manuel, the guy was suprised as hell too.

i wont bash ya, i know its fun to show people up. I think most of us do it, even tho its a "street race free zone". I had a similar incident with a slightly modded WRX a week or so ago, he just didnt know what hit him (4 times). He finally just threw his hands up as we let off. We were both smilin so it was cool, but its fun to show people who think they have real fast cars that a family sedan still rules (sometimes)

You guys are definately right. Smoking Hondas on the street just isn't worth the risk. I think it would be more fun in front of all their friends at the Ennis dragstrip street racers day.
