Who went from Tein S Tech/KYB GR2 setup to a Tein/Illumina setup?
curious on comments. I can tolerate my current setup (Tein/GR2) but want a smoother ride without cutting my bumpstops. I'm now looking at Illuminas for the adjustability and a possible better ride.
Hahaha...... all you people who wants a nice drop and a nice ride at the same time should just get coil-over. If I had the chance to do my car all over again, I'd get JIC coil-over.

i got the tein+illumina combo. the instructions say to trim the bump stops but i didnt cut anything. the ride on mine is bad ***. in my book, the illuminas are high grade sh*t. i was a little hesitant in dropping $400 for the struts but it was well worth it. the tein+illumina set up gives a real sport tuned suspension feel that u wont be dissapointed with. they help to greatly reduce body roll (depending on what setting u have them on). and i like the fact that you can adjust them from an "almost stock" ride all the way up to a reaaal stiff performance feel.
Some of us do not need coilovers. I don't need to adjust my ride height...ever. I fully plan on changing to the adjustable Illuminas in the near future (just to please my wife, since she's the primary driver).
I know, why does this always happen.
We all know coil-overs are bad azz. I'm looking for a good ride with a nice drop. From what I hear the JIC ride really harsh, because of the top plates.
I may go with Tein COs or JIC, but I want to know if anyone has gone with S-Tech and Illums., so I can make a decision from there.
If you guys like we can start a Coil-Overs rule thread!

It won't happen....The Tein springs are too much for ALL the aftermarket shocks made currently. You need a shock with zero compression, thanks to the high rate of the Tein springs, and a ton of rebound control. I finally removed the Tein springs from my Maxima, but did a interesting little test. If you want to improve the ride noticably, but it will still be a little harsh, remove your rear Tein springs and go back to stock. Leave the front alone. This helped, but I ended up pulling fronts the next evening. The GR2 and stock springs ride extremely well, but the look is back to that horrible front skyward position....

Nobody is doubting that coilovers are badazz, and that they are better in certain applications. And yes, I am about to change to my 3rd (not including stock) suspension setup.
We are asking for a specific application, not to debate coilovers.

I had Tein S-Techs and GR2's for a couple months. The ride was so horrible that I switched back to stock springs and struts for almost a year.
Now, a week or two ago, I changed the suspension again. I installed Tein H-Tech springs and Illuminas, on the front ONLY. Now, I know that I only did the front, and that these are H-Techs now, but I feel since I've experienced the S-tech and GR2 setup I can make somewhat of a valid comparison. The ride is phenomenal. Yes, it's certainly rougher (as you would have with any different from stock suspension setup) but the main difference is that there is NO bouncing. No bouncing in the city, no bouncing on the interstate (which bothered me most). I just finished driving 600 miles on the interstate with the new setup and I can literally say - it feels NO different from stock. My sister couldn't even tell a difference (struts on 2) from stock. I had to tell her, and she was shocked, particularly since she had experienced the S-Tech/GR2 nastiness.
I know it's not what most of you guys were looking for, but hopefully it provided some insight.

I was using 3f/3r setup on the Illuminas and noticed my suspension was bottoming out on certain dips (maybe my buddy cut the bump stops too much) so I switched it to 5f/5r and it was stiff but tollerable and did not bottom out anymore. I'm not looking for a Cadillac ride, more of a sports sedan ride.

Better to do it right the first time rather than pay for the mistake later on.
bottom line, if you dont cut the bumpstops with the tein/gr2 setup its gonna ride terrible. Most people complain about the ride cause they dont cut the bumpstops or cut them enough. I tested the ride with both cases, bumpstops and shortened bumpstops and the ride is completely different.
Anyone have illuminas and Eibachs? Just curious, because I am running Eibachs and GR-2's right now. The GR-2's are on their way out and need replacing. Wondering if I should drop the bones for the illuminas.
