Thanks! You may have had an unexpected result!

Thanks a lot guys!
Great forum!
I have a Miata and a Minivan...thinking about replacing the minivan.
Way back in 77 I bought a Datsun 810. Great car. Not too refined but ran good with a 5 speed and a FI version of the 240Z motor. Rather bland looking.
So I thought I'ld check out the Maxima.
Now please understand that I KNOW that forums are the most critical place to get info on a car. (My Miata forum is sure that way!)
But what I find here is disturbing.
No, beyond disturbing. Damning.
I expect a "loose" framitz now and then. And an occasional complaint about Dealer service. etc.
What I find is that this car is a really not a good car.
Seems to indeed have a great motor.
But the rest?
An Auto tranny that is anything but modern and with many TSBs. Parts missing, and absolutely Horrid Customer Service.
Just a general lack of build integrity and very bad paint.
Regarding the CS, it would seem that it extends past the dealers into Nissan NA.
It would seem that the vaunted Japanese quality is fast becoming a myth. My Miata has had a couple of SEVERE quality hits. And the latest Click/Clack survey seems to indicate better customer treatment at the American dealers, of all things!
Such a shame.
In any event, you have convinced me that a Maxima is not the kind of car that I would want.
Again, thank you from making a big mistake! Sincerely.
Nissan, get your head outa your.....sand.

Well if you read some of my prev posts you would noticed that I blasted NISSAN pretty hard for warranty work. Now NISSAN I am having trouble with. The car...I love it! I don't want to get rid of it and after careful deliberation, I have decided to keep it (mainly b/c my financing is through nissan, so they got my money no matter what i do-trade, sell, or keep!)

Now you also have to realize that we are very critical of our cars! Of all the posts I have ever been associated with this is by far the most critical.

"Damning" I don't think we take it that far, but to someone who has only been a member since today, you may not have noticed that most of us LOVE our cars. We are enthusiasts and are overly critical sometimes, but that is a byproduct of having such a great car.

If you don't want the car, that's cool. Its not for everyone. And like UMD_MaxSE said "no problem....now please drive through......"

RedRover-no Max.

Our site can be very critical of The Max...we are strong devotees....

The Max is a superb automobile...as with any vehicle, if you've got a lousy garage, it can sour you on your choice...

By finding the right dealer for after sales service(shop around), the Max is hard to beat...

By passing up on a Max, you are missing out on one he@# of a great car... too bad.. your loss.

Just for the record, my automatic transmission is perfect, and I have no missing parts like I've read about on these threads. And the service at the Nissan dealership has been excellent - far and away superior to Chrysler service.

My previous car was a '92 Talon TSi AWD, which BTW had to have the transmission replaced at 24k, and had paint chips all over by the time I sold it.

I've learned over the years that any major purchase comes with disappointments. I remember a co-worker years ago harping about her brand new BMW and how she couldn't get it out of the shop. So I take the problems in stride.

Bottom line - If you're looking for a roomy four door with sports car performance at a great price, the Maxima can't be beat.

Hey RedRover, I accept your critics and your choices, but one thing that bothers me, is when someone make FREE affirmations baised on very poor knowledges.

I think your missing the train here, I have had Nissan car & truck since 1995 and drove Max ( 98 SE & now 2001 20th auto ) and a Pathfinder 1995, having each car for a period of 3 years. I can state that in 6 years I had 2 problems: tranny on 95 Pathfinder ( was replace free of any charge & done with in a reasonable time ) The only problems I had with one of my Maxima was some sorte of electronic module that was replace on a preventive maintenance call from me dealer, thats it.

Looking at your record you dont seem to ever had a reel car, lets see, miata eum... man, this is a woman's car for sunny sunday ride. A minivan, stop looking at car like maxima and making judgement based on your experience of driving sh&# car.

I always had very good quality services at Nissan, my 2001 is even better than my 98 witch was awsome, and for the price I got it euhm... ( did you really compared any other car in the same category ) dont lose your time there is no other one that can match the maxima on the price performance quality & reliability. Let's be realistic, there is other good car out there, but to have a better one or an equivalent of the max, prepare your checkbook, it's gonna got cost you your miata and minivan just for the downpayment.

Hopefully you dont have the profile of a Max enthousiast, but we all accept that cuz at the end if everyone would owns a max there would be no one left to see in our rear mirror.

Good luck anyway and remember, see you in my rear mirror...he he
