Will the Consult II detect bad coils or a bad MAF

Hey Guys,

I'm curious to know if it's possible to detect a failure in either of these parts due to my car not performing tremendously well. I occasionally hear a slight knock when accelerating and my gas mileage is not where it once was(now get about 19-20 mpg when I used to average 23mpg). I've already replaced the coils once around 40k miles. Could a bad MAF also cause occasionally knocking?

Thanks

I would say the problem would have to set off a warning light, like your ses light, before a reader could pick it up. When my coils were going bad the engine light had to come on before they could detect the problem.

Hey,

I got the answer for you buddy... I had the same knocking noise as you everytime I accelerated. I took it to the dealer and it was the MAF -- I really had a bad knocking noise.... once they I had the MAF replaced -- she rides smooth. Not even a noise. If you already swithced the coils... thats fine. But u definelty need to change the MAF and that will solve the problem garenteed... I just did it this past wedneday.... I paid $320 for the MAF at the nissan dealer.... I hope I was a good help to u! Rami

Your Nissan dealer just you. The MAF is like 70-90 dollars.

dougb: Generally on the Maxima, when theres a problem you can't quite figure out, due to lack of any codes being pulled, it usually narrows down to the MAF or the ignition coils. If there is any minor or severe powerloss issues or gas mileage issues, its almost definitely MAF or ignition coil related.
