Ok i going to get new Spark Plugs for my 2K1 Im thinking Ngk for best performance am i right or wrong?
If Ngk is not good what do i get?

K Pazzo what kind of side skirts, rear and front bumper do you have on your maxima? It seems to have an extra ridge.

 

I just go my NGK plugs from Dave B and I'll be installing them on Saturday. From everything that I've read here on the board it's kind of a crap shoot if you go with something other then the NGK's. Some had no problems and some had the SES light come on. Some have had good luck with copper plugs but they don't last long at all.

My plugs were about $10 a piece shipped and knowing that I'm not going to have to change them in 30k miles or have any other issues is well worth the price of the NGK's.

 

yep go with the stock nissan oem sparkplugs (which i believe are ngk plugs) and platinum tipped.

i've seen ppl with problems getting fancy with laser and iridium ... and all sorts of other plugs

Just go to eBay to get them. For the '00/'01s, just do a search for NGK PFR5G-11. There's always someone selling sets of these.

I lucked out when I got mine since the guy made a mistake and sent me an extra seven plugs. I offered to pay him, but he never responded, so I got seven extra for free. I'll keep them for my next change.

Anyway, getting sets from eBay is the cheapest way to go. There are two sets going for auction right now.

It's not too difficult. The three plugs up front are easy. The three plugs in the back are a pain, though, so be sure you have the right tools so nothing drops into a spot where you can't reach.

I put BKR5E-11 spark plugs in my dads 2000 SE 5spd, it got rid of a studder at 3300 and 3600rpm

How often are you supposed to replace the plugs on 5th gen maximas? Specifically 01 maximas.

nissan recommends 100,000 miles on their platinum tipped plugs, which I wouldn't do. Since they are relatively cheap, i'd do them every 50k/3-4 yrs or so

I thought the requirement was ~100k for plugs, but wasn't sure. I checked the nissan site after my post and verified it. Just thought I'd ask since people are buying plugs for a 2k1 and 2k2 maximas. Seemed kinda early to replace the plugs. I'll run the plugs up to 100k or until I notice something going wrong.

Just curious, why wouldn't you run your plugs to 100k? Are they consistently going out before 100k?

I let my plugs go to 140000km (87000 mi) and they were toast. When I looked at them I couldn't believe the car was still running. I would change them at 100000km (60000mi). So much for 160000km plugs!

 

i usually don't run things to the limit. Since spark plugs is such cheap preventative maintenance and newer plugs provide better spark, I change them at half the limit required by nissan.

 

The 100k mile spark plug interval is as comical as the Mercedes 15k mile oil change interval. Lets be honest with ourselves here folks. If it looks like poop and it smells like poop, it's probably poop.

so much for mercedes 3 yr/36k mile free maintenance when they won't let you change the oil until the maintenance light goes on.

I have been using Bosh Platinum 4 , no problem whatsoever and cheaper than the NGK's
