Car smells of gas?...
Car smells of gas?...
Probably won't get too many replies on this, but I'll try anyway...
I know I'm probably stupid for not ever looking into this, but ever since I got my car it always seemed to smell like gas. Especially, if it was in an enclosed area.
Now I know that it may be typical to smell a little like gas, but mine's significant. It's progressively gotten worse. My other cars didn't smell like this.
I'll probably bring into dealer. Just wanted to gets some ammo.
Anyone else experience this?

Possibly a leak in an evap line somewhere between tank and engine. Blocked return lines, etc. Usually that would set a check engine light though.
Best diagnosis would be to hook it up to a smoke machine for now, see if there are any obvious evap leaks.

maybe see if there was an aftermarket system put in. One of my friends got a system installed at bestbuy, and they accidentally used the wrong screw and drilled a hole into the gastank while installing the amplifier. So mebbe theres a hole there from a botched installation of some sort. ?
Have you replaced any oxgen sensors lately? If you have not, the same thing happened to me. I smelled gas, within a few days the SES light came on, and 260.00 later I had to have a new oxygen sensor installed.
It gets worse though, once you replace 1 the other 3 go very quickly,
Good Luck

Does the smell get worse when the tank is full? If so it's the cartridge seal on the fuel tank. The O ring needs to be replaced.
If not that then it's a severed fuel line or cracked fitting. And if it's under the hood of your car it's a ticking time bomb. Just tonight I saw the front end of a car engulfed in flames in a parking lot. Such engine fires are usually the result of a fuel leak under the hood.

Today, I filled up... It smells now. How can that be? Does this O-ring that you speak of, wear out? I've never heard of this...
SR20DEN, you've been a lot of help!
Thanks guyz for all the feedback!
