Tranny Troubles?

Well, here I am, worried that my Max is sick...

With only 7k miles on it, I drove for about 1.5 hours at about 70mph (from Carolina to Ponce, if you're from PR). Once I got to Ponce, it was pretty slow going, since we were looking for this one place we haven't been to. So I'm driving around at about 10mph, when I hear the engine rev up. It seems that it would not engage 1st gear. I stopped, fiddled with the shifter for a bit. It would engage reverse, but not 1st. After putting it in park and letting it "rest" for a bit, I tried "D" again and felt it go into 1st. Off we went. But not it would not shift into 2nd, so there I was driving around with the engine reved up in 1st trying to get to where I was going.

But it was not as if I had put it in "1", since there was no engine braking when I let go of the throttle. Anyway, go to our destination (Castillo Serralles), parked the car, and tried not to think about it while at my cousin's wedding. Later that night, we got into the car and the AT light did NOT blink, and the car worked just fine on the way home.

My question is... can it be a severe tranny problem? Did it overheat? I'm taking it in for a checkup on monday anyway. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks!

Well, took it in today, they:

Replaced 2 Speed Sensors
2x 319358E004 - Sensor Assy

I've only driven it for a day, but I drove it pretty hard. Hopefully this fixed the problem.

It is pretty scary that the trannys are on backorder.
This must mean there are a lot of replacements being done.

Mine was a warranty repair, so zero dollars. Tranny warranty is only 3 years AFAIK, so those of you with 2000 year models will not be covered.

Tranny should be covered under the 5yr/60K powertrain warranty. My car is out of the 36K bumper to bumper warranty..and they're taking care of it so you should try as long as you're under the 60K. Like I said, the part's backordered (that is scary) so they haven't even started working on it. Once I get it back, I'll update w/how much it cost them if anyone's interested.
