My Maxima is slooowwwww

took it to the track, first time ever. there was a bracket race and i figured it would have been far more consistent than Homer (my CRX).

bottom line, car did a 17.1@83mph.

that was the best, mind you, this was in Vegas...2200' altitude.

2000 Maxima SE, auto (sunroof too). probably weighing in at 3400lbs. the 17.1 was from manually shifting and a lousy 2.5 60'. i was trying for consistency over quickest ET, so that's part of the issue. Back when i had my '00 GXE 5spd, i was running 14.80@97mph...with the same set-up, except my GXE had a y-pipe and no spoiler. I'm having a hard time believing there's a 2sec advantage with maybe 150lbs less weight and a 5spd.

other issue is, it definitely feels down on power.

odd thing is, i still get 20-21mpg in city driving...so, if it was something clogged, dirty air filter, something not functioning properly, it would give me worse gas mileage.

next weekend's goal, test MAF and check coils.

your horrible 60 ft is also eating up alot of your time.

i ran my stock 2k1 auto with 16" rims at the 1/8 track for a 10.12, which is about the equivalent of a 15.8 sec 1/4 mile. You should get your car checked soon

2k/2k1 auto sucks. The auto gearbox just kills the engine, the weight of the 17" doesnt help too and if you have a system or anything else, you'll loose another few tenths.

2k/2k1 manaul is a totally differnt experience, I took one for a little drive from the dealer, cant believe the difference.

The hot air and the altiutde didnt help at all, so also keep that in mind.

Something doesn't sound right. The absolute slowest I ever went on a bone stock 2k1 auto was 16.1. I am at STL somewhere about 300-400 altitude and that will make a big difference, but last I checked not a full second. And thats the worst I've done. Something is wrong with your car, or you need to practice your driving...

My first time at the track, I was 16.013 at 88.64 mph. I let the auto do the shifting as I was looking for consistency, I didn't unload the trunk and I have heavy 17" wheels. I have an intake and a B-Pipe. My 60' was 2.59. Not very good, but with practice and manually shifting, I should get into 15's. IMO, you should be at least a second faster.
