Pleased with this weekend's gas mileage...

Went from Orange County up to Monterey, CA and back. Averaged 28mpg with 4 adults and the trunk almost literally bursting full of camping gear and A/C run 90% of the time.

I've been getting 22/23 city and was eager this weekend to see how she did on the highway. 28 on california freeways (especially with some of the traffic we hit) I think is decent. If I still lived back in PA and owned this car, I'll bet I could squeeze 30 out of it on the turnpike.

Double Check

Ok - was it on the COMPUTER, or did you do the MATH???

That's awfully good for the conditions.

Also - what kind of gas are you running?

I'm very curious as well. Sounds about what the computer would show making the actual about 23-24MPG. I can't even get that with mine. I get 18.5-20.0 mpg for mixed driving. I get 21-22 on the highway at 75mph. I was OK with that (after all, it's not a 4-banger) until gas prices went through the roof. Now it's frustrating as h*ll to here others getting high mileage. It's an 03 SE Auto with 25K on it with NO mods. That's the mileage I've gotten since day 1.

It hurts, but.....

I acutally posted about 27 mpg on the HWY last week with 89 octane, avg about 75-80mph. I think it would have been better with 93 oct gas. I had basically no load in the car, a/c going, no traffic.

I don't really keep track in the city, since it's pathetic (I hammer it pretty good daily!) but I usually get 300 miles to the tank, so that's about 18mpg on 93 chevron supremo.

I hate filling-up for $35 a pop, but DO love driving this car. I'd rather pay for more gas than drive a slower car!!!

Did the 89 octane fuel cause you any grief? Pinging?

And yes, it's still better than a hybrid that takes 3 minutes to get to 75....

Yes it did!

I posted-up this info last week.

Two tanks -- pinging like a mother off-idle acceleration.

Never again.

Thanks... Was just curious. I've never run below 91. No problems there at all.

I was running Chevron Premium, had just done an oil change and got new tires. I actually did the math via trip mileage and how many gallons it took to fill it. (I also have a K&N in it if it matters).

I was surprised at how much power the car had with everyone and our gear in it too. After buying it, I was beginning to wonder if I had made a smart move, after this weekend, I'm convinced that I have, having to put premium in it is worth it for the performance I'm getting out of it.

The guy who owned the car before me took extremely good care of it. It passed smog with some of the lowest emissions that the guy had seen on a car of that type.

Oh, and I said AVERAGED 28mpg, sorry, I got BEST 28mpg...

I drive about 80 miles round trip for work every day. I live in PA and drive alot of changing elevations. I won't say mountains cause you guys out west will laugh, but that's what we call them here. Anyway, I just got my best mileage last tank and it's not too bad. Actual calculated mileage is 24.5mpg at an average speed of 45mph. This includes some city driving and stopping in several small towns. I'm comfortable saying I could get about 27 on the Interstate if I keep it below 75mph.

I know what you mean about the "mountains". I was from Huntingdon County (Made many a trip to Altoona as well) and we had a lot of mountains and ridges to drive over in any commute.

I miss living in PA though, I wish I had never let my previous company move me to California.

"Mountains" in PA are mostly rounded and covered with trees. Out here, they're jagged and mostly have brush, if any vegitation. My wife discribes it as looking like piles of garbage under a brown carpet. The Appalacians are also much older than the rockies.
