Need Help! - Stumped! - What else?

Hi I have a 2000 Maxima GLE. When I bought the car, it wasn't running that well. I have changed the Fuel Filter, Fuel Pump, Strainer, installed NGK Spark Plugs, Decarbonized the Fuel Injectors, and Gutted my Cat. The car is still real sluggish. No power at all. Won't rev over 4,000 and top speed is 85mph. I have put a bottle of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner, and have always put 93 octane fuel since the purchase. Had the Tranny Flushed and fuilds changed.

I don't know what else to do to it. I feel like putting a match to it. Any help would be good. I only paid $5,500 for the car, but have put in another $500 in it, and still nothing. The car has 105k miles and is an automatic.

The computer reads a error code that the dealer said was a "Second Gear Ratio Malfunction".

The previous owners used the car to go to Mexico Alot, and would spend weeks at a time down there, and would fill up with Mexican Gas. That is why I did the fuel system Cleaning.

Please Help!!!!!

Thanks for the quick response. Any other opinions? How would the car behave it it had bad coils? The car doesn't shake nor vibrate more than what is normal. But I can have the gas pedal pressed all the way, and the car won't rev at all. It'll stay at 1500 until I let off, then It will rev alittle. Keep them comming.

She has just over 105k miles. I took it to the dealer, and all they found was that Second Gear had a malfuntion. They charged me $75. I'll look into getting that MAF.

as i understand it, a bad coil basically shuts down a cylinder, so if you got 2 bad coils, its running as a V4 instead of V6. When i bought my car i had 1 bad coil, and it ran like crap, it made it drive real rough like i needed a new clutch,Transmission, and was driving an 89 sentra. :P

Private message DAVEB, he is the Nissan parts hookup guy.

Try some BG 44K fuel treatment, this stuff rocks.

By the way, I'm gonna have to wave the flag on the Mexican gas theory man. Everybody and their Mexican brother knows they only have diesel fuel in Mexico.

The previous owner probably ran some crappy Diesel blend, that's why the car feels sluggish.

Seriously though dude, after a few tankfuls of any good quality gas BP or Mobil as an example, any remnants of bad fuel should have been purged. It's probably coils or maf like has been said.

Unfortunately, you have two problems. The first is, like others have stated, most likely a bad MAF. The second is, based on what code the dealer pulled, a bad shift solenoid within the transmission. You'll see that one once you fix the MAF sensor and the engine starts running right.

Hey Fernando "El Cabron" What do you mean that Mexico Doesn't have regular fuel? I live in Brownsville Texas, which borders with Matamoros Tamaulipas, and at their Pemex and OXXO stations provide regular fuel and their "premium" fuel is less than our US regular fuel. I have never heard of "Diesel Blends"" in the 20 years that I have been driviing in Mexico.

Anyway, I disconnected the battery from my car last night to reset the ECU, and this morning the car wouldn't stay on, unless I had the gas pressed and was revving up around 1500 rpm's.....then while driving, I couldn't go faster than 45 mph. After a while, I was able to pick up to about 55mph. I put it in neutral while moving, and the car can rev cleanly up to 5,000rpm, but in drive, it will only rev to about 2500-3000 rpm. I will try to get a MAF today, I missed the auction on ebay for the MAF they had there.

Also, since I am new to this Forum, how do I send a private message to DAVEB?

Calmado amigo! Sorry if the emoticon didn't convey that I was just goofing around a bit. I know they sell gasoline in Mx, I was just having a bit of fun.

To PM, click on "Profile" on the Maxima.org banner. Click on "Private Messages" on your user functions, then click "New Message", plug DAVEB in their, and you can send him a msg. Hope this helps.

On second thought, your trans solenoids/trans assembly may need replacement. After you get the coils/maf situation addressed, if it still has the pickup of a 3cyl, then it most likely is that the trans is starting out in the wrong gear, indicating the trans solenoids have become defective. I should know, my Max had the trans replaced for the same exact thing. Good luck!

Hey Vato, no me aguito. I know you were kidding. I am just alittle ****ed because the car is behaving like a Geo Metro, instead of Nissan's Flagship Car. No hard feelings ese. When I take it to the transmission shop, what should I tell them so I won't get screwed into buying a whole new transmission? I don't want a temporary fix neither, but I am not aboutto spend another $1000+ on parts I don't need. Thanks
