Rust Spots in Ceiling of 2002GLE: Help!!!

Hello Folks,

I need help.

I bought my 2002 GLE in 11/2002. It already had 968miles on it when I
bought it. I have noticed rust spots (mainly on the left side) in the
inside roofing on the carpeting--from the driver side sun visor all over to
the rear section on top of the left back seat.

I took it to the dealer's service people last Saturday. The lady told me it was not rust but soda spills. Beyond the patronizing and insulting response (I have observed and checked these spots for over a year and I do not drink soda), they simply attempted a cosmetic fix--brushing or polishing over the spots. The spots are back with a vengeance.

Please advise, suggest and counsel. What recourse do I have? The odometer
now reads 26,180 miles.

I appreciate all input.

If it really is rust it will be covered by the corrosion part of the warranty. Check your warranty booklet for details and you'll have to pull up the headliner or have them do it to find out if it's actually rust.

They are probably paint chips nobody took care of. Stuff really rusts fast up there with all the snow and salt.

If not chips, some type of other paint issue.

Assuming by "carpeting" you mean headliner - do you have a sunroof? Maybe your drain hose(s) have come off and water is pooling in the roof??? and that part is starting to rust? The headliner has got to come off... go argue your case with the dealer -and if they don't cooperate, find another dealer... worst case, call Nissan.

Go into the dealer where you purchased the car and tell them that you want the regional service rep to come in and view your car with the headliner removed.

Also go back to the service lady and advise her that you are simply "astounded" by her diagnosis and ask her for details on all of the steps that she took to come to the scientific conclusion that it was soda stains on the headliner. [remember to be overly sweet and polite when you ask her]

Thanks for your response. I appreciate it. No, I do not have a sunroof or any other frills.

Thanks for the advice. I will follow through.

Mr.P

Thanks a million for your insights. I will be going there (Orchard Park, NY) tomorrow to meet with the Service Manager and the Body Shop supervisor. Your suggestions really are aces in the hole for me.

Thanks,
