Thanks Guys!!! 00 MAX finally Running Strong!!

Hi I have a 2000 Maxima GLE. When I bought the car, it wasn't running that well. I have changed the Fuel Filter, Fuel Pump, Strainer, installed NGK Spark Plugs, Decarbonized the Fuel Injectors, and Gutted my Cat. I have put a bottle of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner, and have always put 93 octane fuel since the purchase. Had the Tranny Flushed and fuilds changed.

Well Up til Yesturday, the car was still running like CRAP, but I replaced the MAF Meter last night and WOW!!!

The car in Park will REV to 6,500 like nothing. In drive, I picked up from 0-90 in a matter of seconds. I drove it to an empty Road, and was able to pick up to 120mph before I ran out of road. Before I couldn't go over 85mph.

I just wanted to thank everyone here that gave me good advise. Without you guys, I would have listened to my Local Dealer, and replaced my A/T.

You guys ROCK!!!

This Morning I smoked a V-6 Honda Accord Coupe. I am in love with my MAX!

I got along well with the service guys, but they didn't inspire that much confidence. I think any future problems, and/or mods will come to this forum before anywere else.

Thanks Again!!

I paid $85 for the MAF. I thought it was alittle high. Ebay has one for half the price, but I didn't want to wait 7 days to get it. I think it was worth every Penny, because of the way the car is driving now.

First, when I would turn the car on before work, it wouldn't stay on unless I pressed the gas and kept the engine revved to 2000 rpm. once the car was warm, it would idle real smooth.

But when I would take off, I couldn't go any faster than 45mph. then it would take about 1-2 minutes to pick up slowly to about 65mph.

I hated it. if I was cruzin, and needed to pass, I would floor it, and it was like if I put it in neutral. I would actually lose MPH. I would go slower.

In order to pick up speed, I had to baby the gas pedel. I couldn't slam it, cuz the car would choke. It exhaust felt warm, but not HOT coming out of the muffler. Man the MAF made such a HUGE difference. The Transmission shifts so smooth now, it is unbelivable.

I went to drop something off right now, and I almost beat a 4.6L 1999+ Mustang GT.

but you must also keep in mind...NO ONE on this forum is a TRUE expert.
there are ALOT of smart people that have very good advice. but just be careful when taking advice. you dont know for sure if the person knows 100% what they are talking about. there are alot of opinions that are posted as gospel.
and even the smart people can have a problem diagnosing the problem over the internet. you might not fully describe the symptoms and that can cause even the smart people to give a totally wrong diagnosis in any given situation.
use the advice, but dont treat it as 100% truth.

Find a good dealer that is knowledgible....and if you have a problem.....Look in the forum , talk to the techs at the dealer, and make your call what to do and if you will do it yourself or have somebody else do it...

I do almost all the work to my cars myself. As far as the techs at the local dealership, I didn't trust them. I fixed all the problems with my car. And not once did I do anything to the tranny, other than flush it and change the fluids. But the tech recommended me to purchase a rebuilt transmission and install a new Torque Conv. The guy only went by what the computer told him. I knew there was nothing wrong with the transmission. The problem was that the motor wasn't making any power, and that is what threw the transmissin off.

I take advise from this forum, because I have learned that there is always some one smarter than me. And since I am a new owner of a Maxima, I needed to get educated.

Well, at least you know your fuel system's in top notch shape. That's always a plus... no worrying about fuel system problems for a long long time

Yeah that is true. Everything I did prior to swapping MAF paved the way for my car to instantly rus strong after the swap. New Pump, Filter, Fresh Injectors, Fuel system cleaners, High octane gasoline will keep my Max Running at it's best. Now I am going to Order a CAI and a Y-Pipe and Cat Back, and my car should roar.

6 new coils and a new MAF where the best "upgrades" my 2000 I30 has seen to date. But, the Berk Intake and synthetic ATF switch has helped too.

Still can't believe the car runs better now than when new. Its funny, but my car before my 2000 I30 was a 95 Max. and from day one the 2000 always seemed to be missing something compared to the 95 max. It just didn't have any zip and pinged like crazy. Not any more!

ps my brother-in-law has my 95 max and after 160K still going strong.
