Tranny **** from 1st to 2nd
I got a 2000 Maxima SE Auto with 21k miles on it, and I have noticed for the last 5k miles that when I turn the car on and drive off, the shift from 1st to 2nd is hard. It seems like the tranny dont want to get out of first until like 5000rpm and them it shifts HARD into 2nd. This lag in shift on happens between 1st and 2nd and ONLY happens when the car is cold.
Once warmed up, there is no problems in shifting at all. I am wondering if this is one of those problems everyone else is talking about in the forum...

Interesting . . .
The problem addressed by the TSB is a slip from 1st to 2nd rather than an unwillingness to shift from 1st to 2nd. But the conditions could be related.
From my understanding, the Transmission SHOULD lag when its still cold. This keeps the transmission gears from grinding. But shifting at 5,000rpm's at light throttle ( I assume ) is the lagging everyone is talking about. It will eat your transmission up.
Mine lags for about 300rpms when its cold which the technician said was normal. He couldn't get my 2nd gear to slip during the drive. Oh well, its not that bad yet, I'll wait until it really slips.
