Shimmy on the freeway.

Please !! The Max started to shimmy at freeway speeds a few months back, so I got the wheels balanced. The rotors were also starting to warp at that time too. The balance helped but the shimmy was still there. I figured that the tires were pretty well shot and new wheels and tires were on the way so that would take care of it.......wrong! (and yes I have had the balance checked out) Even with the new wheels and tires it shimmys. Of course by now my rotors are really bad, and Im replacing those this weekend. If that does not help (can't see how it would) then Im leaning towards possible strut or strut mount issues (I have a loose feeling/sound when I hit bumps or pull up into driveways etc) and hoped you guys might have some input.

Thank you in advance for the help guys!

Brakes have nothing to do with it, unless you are braking or if you have REALLY mis-torqued your lugs, I mean really bad ...
Most definetly it is tires. I purchased a new set of tires 2 months ago. Had to go back 4 times to rebalance/replace them. Everytime they were balanced on the roadforce machine. Finally on the fourth time, they went through 9 or 10 tires to find the most balancable ones and balanced ot 1/4 of an OZ. The guy said that our rims/suspension was really sensitive and what is acceptable to others was not cutting it here. Once they were done- no shimmy.

My rotors were warped quite badly and I had a shimmy as well on the highway. After replacing the rotors the shimmy disappeared.

It's possible the shimmy could be from the warped rotors. When you torque down the tires, they do not fit properly against the rotor. This in effect unbalances them. Basically, any loose parts in the whole tire/suspension assembly could cause something like this. If you've replaced any suspension components, I would double check the torque on all of those components.

schermov, what that guy told you is rediculous. The suspension is not ultra sensitive. How many people out there have put new tires on. Do you really think they all went through what you did and haven't said anything?

Thanks guys. I know it sounded really far fetched, but I really think the breaks might have something to do with it. They are really warped, I mean BAD. I am planning on putting the new ones on this weekend (time permitting) and will let you know!

Thanks again!
