I recently drove my dads 2001 pathfinder to pick up some things for him at the store. While i was driving around I noticed that his pathfinder drove quiter, smoother, and just about as fast as my car. Not to mention that it can smoke both of the rear tires. It upsets me to get back into my 28k $ car and hear all the rattles and sqeaks. Not to mention the nasty ride.

2000 maxima
Eibach springs, k&n drop in, Stillen rear exhaust, fully dynamated trunk and rear deck, 4 punch hx 10's, powered with a punch bd 1000, kenwood head unit and digital equilizer.

Well....not to be a jerk, but you did that on your own.

Nasty ride? welp Eibachs will do it....atleast not as comfy as a stock se.

Loud? Stillens muffer aint quiet from what I hear.

Squeaks and rattles....welp...that IS nissan's fault...the only real glarring fault of the car.

Nasty ride? You put in Eibachs, I'm not surprised. Quieter? You have a stillen muffler!!

Rattles? Yeh I have one in my driver's side door. Squeaks? Nope, none here.

However, I own both a 95 Pathfinder and a 2k i30t. (Used to have a 95 max) .. I love my Pathfinder, but it's a dog. No power. The new ones, like your dad's, have the new engine and I'm told are quite powerful and have some real punch. I'd like to upgrade, perhaps this summer, to either the new Pathfinder or the new Qx4. Nice to hear you were impressed...

stay cool,

I have a 2001 LE Pathfinder and it has all wheel drive. They added this function at the late production stage of the 2001 year model.

My 2K has Eibach, FSTB, RSB, and the ride is stiffer, but very well controlled, and excellent road feel.
Squeaks and rattles, are almost non-existant except for a creak when going up or down my driveway sideways.
My 99.5 Pathfinder w/ bolt ons, (Has Beaten a B14 200SX.)stock suspension, feels alot more "bouncy" than my Maxima, handling is superb for an SUV.
As for quality Maxima vs Pathfinder, both of my Nissans are 1st year production cars, and they've both performed almost flawlessly. I hardly drive the Pathfinder unless the weather is bad, need to haul stuff or just escape to the great outdoors. My Maxima, has had problems, but easily remedied, hard to judge, but both my Maxima and Pathfinder have been exactly what I need, when I need it.
I knew the salesman from Star Nissan NY when I worked for a dealer in Long Island. I dropped by to see the Maxima AE, and was greeted, and asked if I wanted to test drive a 2001 Pathfinder XE 2WD. Out on Francis Lewis Blvd I gunned it and I peeled 1st, chirped top of 2nd, and honestly I do feel that a 2WD XE w/ Manual might hang with a stock Auto Maxima.
My heart is still set on a 2002 Pathfinder SE. Why 2002?
Longer, More Power....Best Part...Comes with All-Mode AWD from a Skyline. =)
No more need to spend 31K for LE or 40K for QX4.
Spend 28K, Get a LSD, 240Hp, AWD. What more can I ask for ?
(Thinking STILLEN S/C ?)

-Peace

Well, I like our 99.5 PF LE

more than my Max GLE with short trips. Drive the PF for a week and you may change your mind (comparing stock to stock). The pathfinder is a fantastic value. the QX line has really brought the pathfinder up to a very high level of fit and finish. I did have a pulley fail the other day and it all went to hell after Nissan service touched it. they broke 3 things for every one fixed. But mechanically, its been much more solid than the 2k max.

Well I'm sure your 4 subs are doing anything to help out that squeak and rattle problem!

nin1ash...my parents have an expedition...it used to be the car i drove before my max...it has the big 5.4 liter engine that produces 260hp and 350 lb. ft. of torque...the car does 0-60 in the high 9 second-low 10 second range...because of the torque, it feels faster than the max but is it faster? not by a long shot...it can also take bumps a whole lot better...but does that mean it handles better? no...it is a utility vehicle which means it is made for off roading...although my expedition and your pathfinder are more luxurious offroad vehicles, they are still built to have a very comfy ride...they handle like $hit though...take corners in your max vs. cornering in your pathfinder...the pathfinder won't hold its ground at all...so what if the pathfinder can smoke its back tires? i can smoke my front tires on dry pavement (did 2 days ago)...i can also leave dents in the pavement from where i was doing my brakestand...in the expedition i could only leave tire marks, not dents in the ground

the vehicles are built for different things...although your car may feel sluggish, believe me, it is not compared to the pathfinder...

the 2001 pathfinder has a 3.5 liter v6 engine that produces 240hp and 265 lb. ft. of torque...it does 0-60 in 8.8 seconds...there is no way it handles better than a stock maxima

those are internet and magazine numbers...you can find most of those on www.edmunds.com

also, the slowest time i have ever seen for a maxima automatic is 8.1 for 0-60...that is still .7 seconds faster than the pathfinder time...that is the slowest time i have ever seen, average 0-60 times for 2k or 2k1 auto maximas are around the 7.5 sec range whereas 2k or 2k1 stick maximas run 6.5-7.0 stock depending on the driver

why don't you put your mods in your sig, instead of copying them every time.

i'm saying you can't compare the two...i'm talking strictly about magazine times here...magazines often use a full tank of gas and fully inflated tires...the slowest mag time i've seen for the maxima auto is 8.1 and the fastest mag time i've seen is 7.4...this is bone stock...the only new pathfinder time i've seen for 0-60 is 8.8...i am just telling nin1ash that the pathfinder is not faster and does not handle better stock for stock...he said he took out his parents pathfinder the other day and thought it was faster...i was saying that was just because of the torque...they are both great vehicles...they are the 2 current most expensive nissan vehicles...they are also bought for different purposes...the pathfinder is not as much as a street racer/it doesn't have the cornering ability...it is an suv...i can believe that you have smoked a civic ex and a 200sx which means you are most likely running low-mid 16s in your pathfinder which is very respectable for a big truck...

about the expedition...i was just using that to prove my point to nin1ash that vehicles w/ tons of torque feel a lot faster and since i used to drive an expedition, i used that as an example (since it had 90 lb. ft. of torque more than its horsepower rating)

I have a 01 Maxima SE/AE and a 01 Pathfinder SE. Both are great. I do agree that the Pathfinder is a smoother ride, and the Pathfinder's 'fit and finish' are much better. Especially the interior plastics. With that said, I'm in Max as often as possible....let my wife drive the SUV.

I was much more talking about the quality than the handling. I know the pathfinder is no race car. I am talking about the build quality. By the way i had most of the rattles before the 4 subs. The stillen muffler is the quitest aftermarket muffler i have ever heard. IT pissed me off because it is so quite. Now the squeaks and rattles, that is a symphony.
