Tail light change out

I want to buy the 2000 se tail lights for my 2002, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me how difficult it is to change them? Can I do it myself or should I take it to a shop??? Also, I hear a lot that people are spray painting their lights. Does that actually work?

Easy as cheese... four nuts and a wiring harness and some sealant.

I did the swap with a member here on .org.

It's not hard at all ,but when we did it it was a bit cold so the hardest part ,after taking all the nuts and disconect the harness, was pushing the taillight out we did not have a heat gun or hair dryer.

Any way here is the photo:

I swapped with a fellow .org member too and like custom said getting the taillight out in the cold was hard but thats it. You should be ok to do it now but I would still bring a some type of heat source just in case. Just make sure that the everything is sealed properly when you replace it or you will get water in the trunk.

with my 2k sherwood green SE, would the chrome tail lights look better than the existing black tail lights? (any pics. would be awesome). I'm really wanting to swap someone my black tail lights for the chrome ones. I'd like to see what it would look like, and I'm in the Toledo area. Willing to travel!!!!!!

Hey SarxahsMax, I'm in the Columbus area and have a black 02 with the chrome lights and would love to switch for the 00 SE Tails. Let me know if you decided you would like to meetup and swap somewhere.

In addition to that, if there is anyone else that would trade speak up.

it's easy as pie... just gotta use some elbow grease to push the lights out once all the bolts are removed because of the sealant...

Did somebody say swap?

I just did the change out last night. Took me about 15 min. a side. The hardest part was taking all those fasteners out of the carpet kit in the trunk.

Swapping with someone in your area is THE BEST thing to do. Lots of the 00-01 owners want the new look & the 02-03 guys love the other SE tails on their dark maxis. Yea fishhouse, it's a lot better than shelling out the money for new ones. Everyone is happy in the end.
I got the sealant from Auto Zone. i forgot what it was called. Johny, u remember? I believe it was called black silicone sealant. They guys there will help you if you've got questions.

does anyone have any preferences or first hand knowledge of which tail lights look better in the 2k SE? I always thought the chrome looked better (at least on a green car). tell me what you think.......

thanks

The darker the car color, the more you should lean to the darker tails. If I were you, I would leave the stock SE tails on. IMO
