it doesnt make any sense to put the FPR right next to the filter and then design to filter unnecessary fuel.

You're going to have to wait a few weeks before I get the chance to change mine out. It is actually due about now. But the filter alone may not show all what you want to see.
And to me it's the opposite. Why send unfiltered fuel back into the mix?

the reason you dont, is to increase the useable life of the filter, with the intention of making it last longer than the pump. why filter fuel thats only going back into a particle filler tank

Thank you SR20DEN, I also thought that the fuel pressure regulator is on the engine itself and not at the pump...
As far as the filter construction goes, when I cut it open all I found was the plastic housing with filter inside it with a couple of o-rings and a plastic hose coming out of that takes the fuel to engine so I am not sure what there is to regulate fuel pressure (other than diameter of the fuel line)... If there was a regulator inside the filter I think that the filter would have cost more than ~$15 I paid for it...

Help! I'm doing this now, but I can't figure out how to disconnect the long black plastic hose that runs on the outside to the bottom of the fuel chamber. (the part that spirilis broke) I don't want to break this and I need to disconnect it in order to get to the fuel filter inside.

he needs to seal it in a bag so the fuel cant be smelled. i dont want to analyze it, i want to examine the construction...
the onyl way to analyze it would be to flow test it, i dont have that kind of equipment... the only other way would be to put it into a maxima and run it like that with a fuel pressure gauge, but im seriously not gonna put a dirty filter in anyones car just for the sake of saying 'HA! IT WASNT DIRTY! ROFLC0CKzzz'
i wanna see if nissan actually put the regulator and filter in close proximity and still run recirculatable fuel through the filter.
so dig it out, put it in a triple ziplock bag, in a padded envelope and send it to me... if you would.
ill make it up to you, owe you a favor or whatever...

I had 60,814 miles when I changed it. I think the car feels alittle smoother and responds better. I don't think it will fit in a padded envelop. It's too big and I had to cut the black hose that is running out of it.

Does anyone have a picture of the 2k2 assembly/housing? Is the process any different from the 2k-1?
00MaxSE and I tried to tackle this on Saturday but were unable to take the housing apart. There is a copper-like tube that prevented us from pulling the housing apart.

coolmax- the process is exactly the same as the 2k1...I think that copper piece you are talking about is the in-tank regulator...2k1's don't have it...but as far as I remember, after you screw off the electrical components, everything comes off in clips...there really isn't anything else that needs to be screwed off...just clips

You mean the REAR SEAT? There's 2 little plastic tabs on the bottom that you pull out to release the locking mechanism. Then the seat just comes right out.

Man this looks to be a pain in the ***. I agree with everyone changing their fuel filters. I don't agree with car manufacturers putting on parts in their cars and calling them "lifetime parts". That's just my opinion though. I'll probably have a dealership change the filter at about 50K miles.

It really isn't all that bad and it will save you the time of having to deal with the a$$holes at Nissan service (not to mention that I highly doubt they would do this unless you could prove to them something was wrong).

i dont know if this has been said yet.... bu when removing your fuel pump be very weary of the clips holding the fuel filter feed lines to the inside of the sender unit..... if u loose it good luck trying to get another one without ordering it form nissan for 30 bux...
