Starter/Altanator Problems??? HELP

Lately I noticed that when I start my car it gives some rrr rrr sound. Mostly like it is having a hard time starting. I thought maybe it was because I possibly put in bad gas but we let it run all the way down and replaced with good gas and it is still doing it. It seems like it is getting even worse. Does anyone know if this is the starter or altantor or something else. It happens every time we start the car not intemitten. If it is one of these 2 is this something that needs to be done by a dealer or is this something we can work on? Any suggestions would be great.

By the way this is a 2000 with almost 65,000 miles. Just replaced the plugs and coils in October.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I would recommend a battery load test if you still have your original battery.

I don't know if your "rrrr rrrr" sound is the sound u get after the RPM shoots up, especially on cold starts, but I replaced my started (it was weak anyway) and I no longer get the nasty grinding buzzing sound after cranking the car.

Ok so the car died this morning. When I first started it the RRR sound was more pronouced. It is only when you turn the ignition does it make this sound. It started though. When I dropped my son off at school and came back out it would not start. I had some one from the school jump the battery and it started right up. He mentioned that I was low on water but it is the same battery since I bought it. So I am hoping that it is only the battery. Is there a certain brand I should be putting in or will anyone do?

Thanks

I guess it depends on what you want to use the battery for. Do you have any aftermarket electronics set up on your car? When my battery dies I will be going with an Optima yellow top, but that is just because I plan on installing a nice stereo at some point.

If you are stock, maybe an Optima Red top. They are supposed to last longer.

GOOD NEWS! Replaced the battery and the car starts right up. I am so happy it is not the starter or anything else.
Just wanted to let everyone know to try the battery if they have the same issue.
Thanks all who posted.
