NISMO for our max
NISMO for our max
how come their are not any nismo products for our cars yet. the latest addition to the nismo club was the altima 3.5 and 2.5. i understand having nismo parts for the Z and the SE-R but COME ON THE ALTIMA 2.5. i believe right now they have a cold air intake, and exhaust available for that car. i know the maxima is sort of a family car, but they way the advertise it seems like it is meant for enthustiastic driving. will nismo ever make products for the maximas?
who cares? What is NISMO gonna make that isn't already available from other companies for the Maxima?
Let's see...you can get a Berk intake for like $100 but if Nismo made one exactly the same they'd charge $200 for it just bc it says "NISMO" on it...
The reason they aren't going to invest $ developing NISMO parts for the maxima is that the maxima is increasingly becoming an upscale car, falling away from its roots as the "4-door sports car" as it used to be advertised. People who spend $30K+ for the new maximas aren't usually the type who buy NISMO stuff for their cars.
On the other hand, high school kids (who are the MOST likely to "pimp their rides") are more likely to be able to afford the Sentra and the Altima....these are the cars targeted by Nissan to the tuner community, just like Accords, Civics, etc...
And the Z is a sports car, so of course they're gonna make parts for it.
I once asked a Nissan sales/parts guy about that and he said something like "Even if they did, the Nismo parts woudn't be as good quality as alot of the aftermarket parts from other companies." And this guy drove a 300Z twin turbo that had not a single Nismo part on it!
I for one wouldn't buy anything that said "Nismo" on it unless it was both cheaper and better than any other comparable part from companies such as Stillen, Berk, Cattman, etc....

nismo doesn't see much of a market for a maxima, considering the altima 3.5 is now nissan's new "sports sedan"
also, what is there to worry about? You have the same exact 3.5 as the Z and altima. So whatever those guys run (cams, crankshaft, pistons, etc) you can run
oh and also, nismo does not equal to better made parts. Now don't be like them civic boys with mugen stuck up the a$$

as for the 3.0, why would you need nismo parts when other aftermarket companies produce them already. nismo parts haven't really been known to produce the gains to justify their price
I have nothing against nismo... just that I havent heard a peep from them after I got my max..... and they are a nissan supporter..... weird... I do like their Nismo Rims though.. .but for 500 bucks a rim... no thanks...
Whats wrong with Nismo? They make a mean oil cap
BTW I WAS actually going to buy their oil cap... I do think it looks cool... But then i saw how much they wanted for them. They have to be joking! That sucker better be Platinum!

SCC dynoed nismo s-tune, r-tune, etc on a 350z a month or two ago, and found that for the $5000 they spent getting nismo parts installed on the VQ they gained less than 20 hp at the rear wheels.
Nismo makes cams for the VQ in our Maximas.
So does JWT...JWT cams are cheaper and dyno better..go figure.
Nismo wants $1200 or more for a set of VQ cams. GAH. According to SCC using the Nismo cams, intake and exhaust netted them 8 hp (?) or some stupid number.
I'm sorry, but I can't justify spending over a grand for those measly, pathetic hp/tq increases. By the time you tricked out your Max's VQ with nismo cams and other goodies, you'd be halfway or more to the cost of a FI setup of some kind, or way past the $ needed to spray no2..

I'm not defending Nismo here... but for those of us who still have some significant amount of time on our warranties, Nismo does have something to offer.
I wouldn't dare put any forced induction on my Max until after my warranty is up... unless Nismo had a kit that would be covered (and IF it was proven to be worth the $$).

Yea, I know how you feel. It would be good if Nissan Dealerships would sell more aftermarket products like Nismo or JWT, so it won't void our warranty's.
...on a similar note, I'd wager that my dealer (Acme Nissan) will refuse to cover my Maxima if it has Nismo mods EVEN IF they were installed by another dealership. (******** consider the K&N dropin filter as an engine mod.)
