Emissions and Brakes

My first question is how can you tell if you car is California Emissions or Federaland what is the difference between the two. And my second question is my brakes keep on making noise when i brake, i changed my front pads today with nissan pads and they still making squiking sounds, the only thing i can think of left to do is change the back ones. Any suggestions would be nice.
Thank you

Some 2000s are cali and fed, all 2001+ are cali spec. For the 2000s take a look at the front of the engine, if you have 4 O2 sensors its cali spec and also says NLEV on the emissions sticker under the hood. The cali spec has extra O2 sensors and pre-cats (2 cats before the 1 main cat).

For the brakes it can be a few things. First some pads squeak when new until broken in. Also, when you replaced the pads did you put the goo on the shims to hold them in place, if not they may be moving. Next are your rotors warped? If so this may be hitting your pads.
