Cold engine runs stronger
I was wondering if anyone had noticed that there max ran stronger before it completely warmed up? (I know this is an automotive no-no but it's hard to resist the added acceleration). My car has been modified with a JWT pop charger and a cattman y-pipe and just by the seat of the pants feeling I believe that it is accelerating harder than when it is totally warmed up. From my K&N equipped pop charger I am certain I am hearing a deeper intake growl. I wondered if a chip upgrade would enable my car to have this type of acceleration all of the time?

I noticed this same strong acceleration while driving the engine cold, however as soon as it warms up it doesn't pick up like that. What is the reason for that happening? Anyone know? Is there a way to maintain that pick-up at all times?

It dosent run rich to warm the cats up!!! It runs rich cause the car is still in open loop. Its in open loop, till the o2 sensors kick in then it goes to closed loop. While its in open loop, the computer has NO idea how much fuel to add. So it uses info from look up tables, with info like coolant temp, air temp and info from the MAF, and calculates a reasonable air fuel ratio, which is always going to be a little rich.

its also related to colder engine having a cooler intake manifold and overall lower temperature which leades to a denser air going into the motor.....but once the air heats up it expands and its not as dense.
This is why you often see folks at the track putting ice packs on their superchargers and even pushin the car to the starting line...
Want that cold engine feeling all the time? get NOS!!!

Yeah you need the o2 sensors, cause you dont want to be running rich all the time. But you could just get one of those computer thingys so you can play around with the air fuel ratio.
By the way, mjk are those the projectors you 5th gen guys are having problems with people stealing? Cause those are sooo.............
