Bog at 3500 RPM

Hi,

Boy I am glad I found this forum!!!

Anyway, i'm a newbe, and I have a 2000 Maxima SE with 71,000 miles on it. I love the car, execpt about 2 months ago it started bogging REALLY bad when it hits 3,500 RPM. The best way I can explain it is if it were a 2BBL carb motor, when the secondaries open up the engine would flood out. I can't get it to spin higher than 4,000 RPM now....

Also, if it is in neutral, I can spin the engine upto redline. It is only when it is in gear. It has an AT, if I put it in first, it sitll happens....

It started about the same time that I had the computer reprogrammed by the dealer for a TSB about the O2 sensor, and it was putting on the idiot light.

I hate my local dealers, and can't find a shop that I trust!!!!

Sounds to me like the Mass Air Flow meter. If you manually search this forum you will find out how to replace it and save yourself about $300-$400.

I had the same problem that you are experiencing....I cleaned my mass air flow sensor and all was solved! Car running awesome ever since.
Clean it before you replace it.

I checked with several local dealers, which ranged from $100 to $125...each dealer makes their own pricing based on stock and demand. This one is actually a "spare" I carry on long road trips, just in case, for peace of mind.

Thanks, I will take a look!

I read through the TSB that are listed on this site, and found the one about the tranny slipping. The more I look, this could be the problem. If I am out of gear I don't have any problem red lineing the engine. But when going up a hill, if I punch it, or have the throttle more than 1/2 way open it bogs/hesitates.

I think it is because it should shift into a higher gear but it isn't.

I will take a look at the Air-flow meter.
