How does your cruise control work?

Hi,
How does everyone's cruise control work? When I use the cruise control to drive my max on the freeway, it accelerates every other second instead of applying constant gas like the car I drove before. Because the maxima is powerful, i can feel the acceleration and deceleration. Is this normal?

Every other second it accelerates? Sounds like a problem to me... when you have your cruise on and you set your desired speed, if you hit the "accel" button, it should be a smooth and gradual pick up in speed not choppy.

Check your vacum lines going to your cruise contol unit, you may have a leak.

I may not describe clearly. When I use cruise control, it keeps the speed as I set correctly. However, I can feel it apply gas, release gas, apply gas, release gas, apply gas....... I can hear some noise when applying gas at 1800~3000rpm so I am sure when the cruise control unit apply the gas.
Is this normal?

If you mean feeling the gas pedal moving, that's normal. It's supposed to do that. The car should accelerate and decelerate to maintain +/- of a given MPH.

If it drops down 10 mph, comes back up +5, etc. then worry.
