Need help with brakes and tranny cooler

I have 2 seperate questions and I cannot find the answers to it, unless I am completely blind, which is a possibility.

The first question is, what would cause the brakes to make a squeal/howl noise only when backing up. It is coming from the drivers side rear brake. I have not looked at the pads but everything looks sound on the brakes visually except for a little rust on the rotor. It only happens for the first few seconds upon start-up and then it is gone until the next time it sits. I was thinking that it might be the wear bar hitting the rotor but it stops too quickly. Do the 2000's have problems with brake lines?

The second question is what are the differences in tranny coolers? I have looked at the Hayden 404 and 403, and I know the 403 is a little smaller. I have also looked at a local brand here called Imperial which is the same size at the Hayden just a little bit different design. Is the Hayden better than the next for any reason or is it just what everyone uses? Would the smaller unit do the same as the larger unit or would it be better to go larger? The car is 100% a daily driver, I have another car as a toy. Lastly how much does the capacity go up when using a tranny cooler? Thanks for all of the help.

Does anyone know the answers to either one of these? The reason I am pressured is this is the only weekend that I am going to have time to work on the car for the next month or so and I would like to get it done. Thanks.

i can't see how a smaller tranny cooler could be better. A larger tranny cooler holds more and therefore subjects a larger surface area of cooling for the tranny oil.

Do you park outside? You just might have some dew on the pads/rotors.
Check the pads, by taking the wheel off - there should be a whole in the caliper to check pad thickness. Also might be a small rock stuck in between pad and rotor.

When I once had a 3000 GT, I had the same metallic screeching noise when I would back out of my parking space in the mornings...it was fixed when I had my brake pads replaced. It turned out to be the pad wear indicator in combination with the morning dew... Apparently it was only making the noise in reverse.

I have no idea what brand the pads are. For all I know they may be factory. I bought the car used. The rotors are factory for sure but I have been looking at the drilled rotors to keep them cooler, since it is always driven in stop and go traffic and the wife is hard on brakes. I will look into the pads to make sure they are alright, if they are bad are there any particular brand that I should look at?

I did a little bit of reading on the tranny cooler and I think that I am going to go with the larger Imperial since it is a little less expensive and the same quality as the Hayden.

cross-drilled are not always the best choice. in my experience, the front ones were done within 20K. perhaps they are better if you buy STILLEN. I got some off a GD for under $300 shipped. i am back to brembo blanks.

Mine does the same thing when I back up in the mornings. I would not be worried about it at all. I have a tranny cooler too, (can't remember which one though) while your putting it on you should flush the tranny for good measure. Check the "how to's" for instructions.

Thanks guys for the answers. I have been eyeballing the Brembos since the stock replacements are really expensive around me. They are wanting $90 per pair for the front and $70 per pair for the rear, for good rotors at least. I have seen the Brembo's for $160 for all four.

I do not need to do a tranny flush since I just did it at 60,000 miles and I have 70,000 on it now. I have looked over the write up and it looks like it is pretty straight forward and I am not going to run into any surprises.
